good to hear from you JaysonEmo, there are one or two Brazilian Ju-jitsu clubs near to my home town. I know that there are ground fighting, throwing and strikes in both types but what is the main difference between japanese jujitsu and Brazilian apart from the japanese system is more traditional.
That's what I thought i have seen some Brazilian Ju-jitsu on net, whatever works to achieve your ultimate aim, to defend yourself without getting to injured. even though we train for this it is very likely that we still get hit.
Either way, you could get hit. If you a defending yourself from a gun you could get shot, if you defend yourself from a knife you could get cut. Don't count on not getting hit at all, that will come down to luck.

when it comes to Japanese Jujitsu/Jujutsu it depends on what school your affiliated with. some schools have 50/50 hand an kick techniques in addition to grappling
some schools put more emphasis on grappling an takedowns
some of the older more traditional schools are complete...where they do punches, kicks, grappling, takedowns, throws, take-an-attacker-out quick with no mercy brutal stuff.
the jujutsu i did in okinawa was 50/50 hand an kick techniques with grappling.
Brazilian Jujitsu has the same techniques as all the above mentioned (with limited king an punching depending on the school) but places more Emphasis on Chokes an Submission. thats the main difference...
ohh yeah..... an Modifying some of the groundgame techniques to make it easier for smaller sized people to roll
