Japanese jiu jitsu

Is it just me, or is JJJ missing out on a hell of alot by not including Randori or any free practice in the training? Surely, compared to judokas, someone trained solely in JJJ would feel completely dazzled by the timing and energy of a real -life violent confrontation. I have trained in both Judo and JJJ, by the way.

Hmmm some dojos don't, our head of style also had dan grades in judo so we do plenty of randori and also a good helping of full resisting attackers. I just assumed this is how all JJJ people trained, this was not your experience?
* youe also assuming that the student hasn't actually been in Violent confrontations before? i.e so they can see how to apply these techniques and which work and which are just to show skill

There used to be a test in Koryu Jujitsu, where to prove you were a master you had to beat a master. This was basically a street-fight where anything goes. Plus I know a few JJJ styles and schools who do Randori.

The thing to remember is that before Kano's time, actually I think he was born about the period, allot of JJJ schools cut out full contact sparring in favor for focusing on kata to attract students who didn't want to face "hard training" for now extinct Warrior Class. What Kano did wasn't invent Sparring (Randori) in Jujitsu/Judo but invented a safer way of training for Randori.
