Home Country: | I remember seeing some TV coverage of President of Russia, Vladmir Putin, as an avid practioner of Judo. Amazing. Martial Arts have no political boundary.
Little bio on him I found on internet.
Mr Putin has good command of English and German and he is fond of sports, especially wrestling. He has been going in for sambo (a Russian style of self-defence) and judo since the age of 11. He won the sambo championships of St Petersburg many times and became Master of Sports first in sambo and later in judo. Putin doesn't smoke and he is not an excessive drinker. |

Home Country: | it is the first time that i havew heard about a president who does martial arts and about the sambo ; it is a ground fighting method which looks like jiy jitsu but it is believed as i heard from people that the sambo tries to beat the jiu jitsu on the ground an tries to prove that it is better than jiu jitsu .
that what i heard and i'm not sure about that . |

Home Country: | martial arts travelled through russia in some way or another during the birth of greco roman wrestling. which eventually reached India. although don't quote me on that, its just a huge coincidence.
plus russians dont have fights they have village riots... you start on a guy from the village next door and the entire mob of 100 or so is down to visit... so you get your band of merry men and you all have a huge fight, a little judo sure as hell comes in handy I think.
So to conclude... russians had something to do with martial arts in the past.
and.
dont start on a russian. |

Home Country: | Russia was no different than any other country, seeking info from other countries.
Sambo is thought to be created from Judo
