Hello,
I am interested in studying Judo or BJJ (preferably both, but this may be out of the question for me). I am feeling more drawn towards Judo as I understand this involves both standing and ground grappling techniques, whereas BJJ focuses on the ground stuff. Any ideas?
I have also found that most BJJ schools seem to be more expensive than those of Judo. would this extra cost be money well spent? or is it simply the result of BJJ schools taking advantage of the BJJ publicity generated by UFC (just a suggestion)?
I notice many more BJJ fighters compete in MMA tournaments, in comparison with Judokas. Is this due to the effectivess of BJJ over judo in this area? or the fact that Judo schools do not encourage students to compete in MMA

Thanks in advance
seems you've done your research Most really good judokas compete in Judo thats why you don't see that much of judo in mma + BJJ is great at groundwork which since the early UFC was found as an easy way to win until everyone started learning it

Well BJJ WILL concentrate mainly on groundfighting, and a good Judo club will concentrate on both goundfighting and standup fighting. Most BJJ guys compliment with Judo and vice versa. The main thing is that you get somewhere and start practising. Both styles are good for learning though. Good luck!

look man u have to decide with ur own mind because if u entered a karate dojo and asked is kung fu better than karate they'll say the karate and it is the same if u entered shaolin temple .
so u have to find out with urself .
make a research about the both arts and see the advantages and disadvantages of both of them .
and if u seen a striker he'll tell u that the grappling arts are useless ....
hope u got my idea
find out and tell us what u decided

You will get stand up fighting in BJJ as well although Judo focuses more on it IMO. Judo is usually cheaper. It seems to go with the whole Judo mentality, most teachers seem to be of the attitude that they would give their knowledge away if they could. BJJ has become all the rage thanks to MMA on TV and therefore. People who teach it seem to think it's ok to charge quite a bit of money for it. I am fortunate because i don't pay too much where I train although I started there doing Krav Maga but the price hasn't changed.
Where I take Judo, you can pay 5 dollars a class or you can pay a monthly fee of 25 dollars. Not very expensive and definitely worth it.
