I've just got well, got the application for my red belt in judo but I've only had about... 5 lessons. I mean, I have shown potential, I can fend off in randooris against green belts and blue belts and what not, but still... 5 lessons?
What are y'all thoughts?

Possibly they want to give you a rank to move you into a class where you won't be bored based on the idea that if you are bored you will leave. I don't know, but whenever I have seen a school offer an advanced belt to a new student it has always been about attempting to keep that student on the roster.
I say take it. Worst case scenario is you are the worst student in a higher level class.
I am the worse student in the higher class. Because of my size and age, I attend both junior beginners (Full of 10 year olds which I inevitably beat the crap out of) and the advanced class which I inevitably get the crap kicked out of me. But in the beginners class, they're full of white belts who have been there for months to a year.

At that age, there has to be a good reason your instructors are offering you this opportunity. At least I hope they have a good reason. I think Chapel is right. What do you have to lose? Being the worst student in the advanced class should push you to improve faster, and maybe that's what they are trying to do to you.

Fair enough, I just don't want to have something I haven't earnt, especially since martial arts is like a passion.
I know the feeling. That's a good outlook to have.

I don't think you should take a grading, as you've only had 5 lessons, and you probably haven't learned everything you need to know in that little time.
Well I was searching around and I came across this,
Junior Red Belt
Novice to 1st Mon Red Belt + 1Yellow Tab
Technical Content: demonstration of:
Ukemi
Tai-Otoshi
Mune Gatami
Japanese Terminology and Etiquette:
State country of origin of Judo (Japan)

And I do know those stuff, and a bit more.

I agree with Chapel and Souldrum......take it. its an opportunity to train with the advanced class more often and
even though you may get roughed up. its only the beginning youll get better. im in a similar situation at my ninjutsu school. most of the time im the only an the youngest Kyu grade there an i get roughed up by the black belts. which I
find to be a quality learning experience.
also, if your were training in Japan. your situation would most likely be the same. thats how it is with alot of Japanese arts. cause belts really dont matter the way how we look at it in the west,
they emphasize your skills, learning ability, discipline more.
so if you have those you would find yourself moving up fast in Japan too

i wouldnt take it. i would keep the belt i have, and test as it should be which would give you a much better understanding of the basics, and ultimately make you much better than if you just jump ahead. but id you are that good, simply ask if you could go to advanced classed as well. in Judo what rank is red , is it right before black?
Such ranking is based upon hat the instructor(s) rightly believe. Thus if they feel right about it.....
However, I met and known a few instructors who've "given out" ranks, in order to further promote their school.
hmm so the person they give a quick black belt too, goes aroung thier school, telling everyone how they got a black belt in judo in a month? which would increase their sales due to the many new arriving people who wish to obtain a black belt fast.

Well, to some so naive and gullable, ranking is what they desire.
I know of two schools who've "handed out ranks" like candy....
