I think that the time it takes to achieve first Dan should depend student to student. I have skipped a few color belts because of my masters discretion. Competing in tournaments i usually fight up against higher ranks. I also started at his school with a solid base of martial arts knowledge and good comprehension of most of the tecniques. When US soldiers were stationed in Okinawa many of them would achieve their black belt in one or two years with a strong dedication to their training. QA good example of this is Joe Lewis(one year.) If you show dedication and strong tecnique there is no reason you should be promoted at the same rate as those who lack ability or dedication.

It may also surprise everybody but i was quite shocked when i found out its possible for someone so young to reach blackbelt status as before Richard started Karate i always associated a black belt to be some sort of Mystical being (if that makes sense) So my ideas were some what shattered.

More to follow.
Capian, IMHO, there is no need to apologize. You have evey right to post your opinion. It is your belief or view. I respect that even if I may not disagree. Glad to have you in the forum.

Yeah, but dude is now a member of a Martial Arts forum...for his son. Not for himself....for his son. And he comes on here and talks about Martial Arts...for his son.

That's not weird to you, even if you thought kids where awesome?

It is a bit odd. I was trying to find a reason like maybe he wants to ask people martial art questions just in case he was getting fleeced by his son's instructors but I've never really seen that.

I don't wanna stir the pot at ALL, but....Please bear with me. Maybe I'll say something intellegent...or not. LOL

This guy has possibly never had any experience with the martial arts before his kid was enrolled. Once he enrolled his kid, he got blinded by the dazzle of what appears to be a McDojo(IN MY OPINION!) He had no idea what a McDojo was, and therefore thought that since his kid is performing right on target, but albeit advancing too quickly, and since the sensei said he was exceptional, that his kid is some whiz kid who could attain a blackbelt (a mystical being) in record time. I feel really bad for the father because he has been caught. Hook, line, and sinker, by a possible McDojo. To pull the kid out now, would destroy his faith in the martial arts. However, I might try to enter him in other schools/systems and gradually move him to those.

I have asked many questions on this forum to do with karate, do a search and yes one of the questions was about schooling fee`s. My son has a new interest and i am trying to find out as much about it as i can and i have started training which i have nentioned in a previous post but have only attended 4 classes due to having a fractured rib........ My son is too young to find out certain information for himself so me as his dad, i do it for him.

i wouldnt call that weird? if his interest was the normal such as football then i wouldnt need to ask any questions as i know all there is to know about football.

It's all good, Captain....I'm just mostly messing with you bro. You will learn to quickly ignore most of what I say!

How did you fracture the rib? That's painful, very painful.

Mcdojo? The sensei has told me my kid has exceptional talent, many people have told me this he frequently enters competitions but the competitions are peewee 9 years and younger, my boy is only 6 and he frequently gets bronze and silver medals and he won a gold at the world club championships (FSKA). The las t competition he entered was a british open and the category was 9 and under (all grades) the category took 3 hours ot complete on a flag system as there were so many entrants and there were many talented kids there. My boy got through 4 rounds and just missed out on a bronze medal, the kid he lost out to was a young chinese kid who was unbelievable and who went on top win the category. Richard`s team beat this kids team in the team kata and managed a silver.

If it is a Mcdodjo then we sure do win a lot of medals normally our club takes home a trophy for winning the most medals at many of the tournaments we enter.

I was the person who mentioned mystical being and what i meant by that is i thought a black belt was meant to be this someting special and was shocked to find out my boy could reach black belt so young?

Is your son happy with what he's doing? Then who cares what anyone else thinks. I still don't like kids getting black belts but hey if he's happy thats cool man. Keep posting pics and vids you should be proud.

Ok i will bear that in mind.

Well actually im not sure if its fractured on not, all i know is that something happened to my rib cage years ago and one of my ribs sticks out and if i get hit there with any force whatsoever it hurts for a week or 2. I should get it xrayed. I was sparring with a 16 year old kid at karate and got a punch to the rib area......
