Black Belt magazine has an article on 5 Shotokan combos for use in WKF comps. As most of us know the rules are 1 point for a punch, 2 points for a kick to the body (chudan) & 3 points for a head kick (jodan) or takedown & punch.
An example of one combo is - both fighters in a right fighting stance, left feet in front. Attack with right hand gyaku zuki then trap/grab the left lead arm at the sleeve & collar to use your rear right knee & sweep both legs - finish with a punch.
I like to use a left back-fist (riken uchi) & if he blocks then just grab the collar sweep over the left leg & punch. The AAU gives a half point (waza-ari) for most techniques but an ippon for head kicks & takedowns with an immediate follow-up.
What combos do you guys like?
My apologies for not including the Black Belt magazine issue date. The issue date is March 2009 & Ted Wong is on the cover.
The article on JKD, with Ted Wong is a great article too.
Anyway - what combos do you guys like?

Unfortunately in our State tournaments they do not allow leg sweeps, though our neighbor state tournaments do! We get one point for punch and two points for kick to target areas in point sparring.
My favorite combo that I used alot as a young woman, was a "hook/round kick' combo. It really works well in competition.. because people usually guard their bodies/faces really well, and they think I'm coming with a front leg side kick... so they usually drop their hands.. and over the hands I go with the hook, and onto the head I go with the round kick
I usually follow up with multiple strikes to head, just incase the kick doesn't score fast enough.

My fav combo in point sparring is a front, round, hook.
Basicly, standing in southpaw stance (right foot fwd) font kick to the belt followed by a rount kick to the head, followed by a hook kick to the back of the head. All with the same leg. I'll see if I can get a video demonstration for you this evening.
I usually don't have to go as far as the hook kick though...I usually score on the round kick to the head. Plus, now, I'm getting a LOT slower with my legs. LOL age waits for no man.
My next favorite is a front kick, followed by a backfist.
For full contact stuff, I like left front kick, followed by a left jab, right, then in for the take down. Of course, I get tied up pretty quickly still in the take down. LOL A year ago, I would just stay standing and never go for the takedown.
