lol... i thought it was a good thread because you helped completely change my view of TKD... but you have in many other threads too, but i thought with this thread you could reach more people!
The thread was started by a troll which promoted more trolling from others.
There were complaints about trolling and yet there were over a hundred responses (exactly what a troll wants).
The thread has gone off topic and i have learned much more because of it.
Because of trolling, I now am familiar with the following: (trolling, post farming, necro, ninja'd, etc...) can't wait to try them out
ROTFL Ha! Ha! Ha!
I'm sure the MartialMan47 has many more years of training then I have, so I try to read his posts with an open mind (even if they piss me off sometimes ).
Perhaps. And I should be the one named disgruntled
Sorry, my intentions are not to piss off anyone. But, better to pissed off than pissed on.

Yes, sometimes one has to put a "lid on it", "turn down the heat", and let it "simmer", or the things inside would "boil over".

truer words are soldom spoken ^^ ..
ive been in a few fights(not that ive intended to)
and one of em i lost because i refused to fight back...reason for this was because we were both under the influence of alkoholic beverages ^^...and if i tried to use my WTF TKD training i would either seriously have injured the opponent(because i would be head hunting) or failed trying to overdo it...i believe he was out looking for a fight too so i didnt want to satisfy his need for a good fight..
so i took the beating willingly knowing it would probably make me stronger and i might learn something from it....i felt like a jackass the day thereafter when i was looking over at my ripped t shirt and the bruises from the encounter..however it motivated me to train harder and better...and taught me alot about myself..
and in time instead of it injuring my pride it has strengthened it..
in another encounter i was shielding someone else(my best friend and a former girlfriend)from a drunkard trying to measure strength at all costs witch ended in him hitting the female at one point....in this incident i used my hapkido training to put him on the ground and holding him in a elbow lock while at the same time shielding him from a raging girl...i got my friend to call a taxi instead of the police(it was in my friends house) and the incident ended better than it seemingly would have...no one got any bruises and was seemingly unhurt..
there is a time and place for everything....and you decide if its going to end well or not on some level or another..
i learned that i would rather use my training to protect than fight with no reason or for some dumb missunderstanding...
but back to the topic....taekwondo is an effective selfdefence in the street if the person using it is well trained....seemingly too effective at times(i wouldnt want to scar someone for life unless it was a last way out)..it all comes down to the situation and the people involved in that situation...if needed a taekwondo artist can defend themselves with devastating techniques...(tremendous head damage or broken bones being the usual thing)...
at point blank with an opponent i use hapkido and kick boxing at a suiting range i use taekwondo..training in more arts gives you more to handle a situation than just training in a single one...
however there is more to martial arts than just being good at fighting in the street...Taekwondo isnt only fists and kicking like the name suggests but a way to learn how to handle the situation on several levels...fighting being the last way out,and selfcontrol under any given situation to even loosing a fight, just to not seriously injure someone less trained in MA...
things dont always get pretty out there...but you can do what you can to make it less ugly...
i train MA to protect my loved ones if needed someday...
i train MA to have good health and a fulfilling life...
I train MA bacause i feel its giving...
I train MA to reach some level of enlightenment...
not to wreak havoc in the streets (however much fun that would be )...

Korean martial aerts are effective if one is trained with the right instructor and not one having a Belt Factory Sport Business.
Everyone wants to talk about winning, in the sense of pride. no one wants to talk about losing as to fell like losing face or not having enough skill.
However, post honestly about fights you had lost, and what did you learn from those loses.....
what i meant in my former post was that it all depends on the situation and of course like you say..being trained by someone serious that is not just running a belt factory so that you actually are capable of handling the situation..
i spoke of a loss in the former post and typed it as i best could describe it(and as honest)...dont know if i was unclear..
but in the end i didnt see it as a loosing fight but one i learned about my self more..and it motivated me to keep going and train harder..
also i didnt see the purpose in fighting someone just to please their wishes...
so i feel that i came out of it being the bigger man about the situation...
but like you say...you dont see many people posting about loses...everyone training taekwondo atleast in a competitive way and tournament wise have lost a few times ^^...(you dont train at something and believe you master it better than others with more actual fighting eksperience..thats kinda a given..)
ive lost a few fights in some tourneys but i got something to think about and train more at because i figured out what i was doing wrong at that given situation i lost a point in....i got more eksperience in other words ^^..
to find out some things you must "trial and error" your way to the answer...no one can teach you how you will react in a fight...its something you more or less will have to find out yourselves..
ohh and im sorry if my former post sounded like boasting..my intentions were humble and trying to explain that in some situations it might not always be the best solution to fight...
like i choose not to at one situation but had no doubts about taking someone down to protect someone i care for in another..
