I have two very effective sparring kick combinations that usually get me quick points.
1) front snap kick > front twist kick (It always looks like you're just going to do two front kicks, and the twist gets 'em.)
2) front snap kick to mid section > rear leg round kick to the head (Opponent drops hands to defend mid section; opponent gets knocked out by shin to the head)

My prayers have been answered. I received my yellow belt last week so I thought I didnt do well enough on my test. Last night I got moved up to high yellow, which means I can full contact spar. Too bad I coulnt order my equipment before the test like everyone else, oh well. Now its time for the fun stuff to begin.

Be it as it may, everyone has to come off the top of the pole sooner or later

LOL, I doubt he's coming down any time soon. The guy is a beast even when he's out of shape, I'd be happy if he doesnt knock me out.

I must say sparring is a lot harder than I remember, there are so many rules and niceties.

Biggest lesson learned, put fingers in fist when blocking a black belt kicks.

The most fastest and easist kick would be the front foot front kick. It is closest to the target, and dosent travel the most when the foot is taken off the ground. The most powerfull kick has to be side kick, back kick or spinning backroundhouse with the heel.

From all the sparring clinics, classes, dvd's, tournaments, I've seen. The most used kick is back laged round house kicks. to scroe a piont in wtf olympic sparring you have to hit the person hard enough to make him move a litte. round house kick and butterfly kick , are the fastes for scoring points. ( from what I have seen over the years) In olympic sparring.

My teacher showed us a video.....they Got the fastes kickers they could think of. to see what was the most powerful and fastest kick. round house kick came out on top for speed. Powerful I thiunk it was back kick...

Biggest advantage of a back kick is that it comes in from a different and unexpected angle. As a result it can seem to come out of no where. Multiple people, including the gold medalist in men's sparring in the 2000 Olympics, have said that a back kick works when nothing else seems to.

1.) Indeed, I met him once...fellow...at htat time not too many knew of him...because of the Chuck Norris trend....Chuck was in the "spotlight" more back then...IMHO

2.) Kinda makes one wonder it can be used in some street applications........

In our martial art we are taught the donkey kick, but I have never found it useful in a fight. You are blaringly vulnerable while you start to execute the attack. That's just my opinion.
Anyways, for points, high round house followed by a mid side kick. For power, step in side thrust kick. For speed, crecsent kick.

Any way, the double kick in the ribs followed by a turning donkey kick in the stomach seems to work ok, high kicks are only recommended if you are very flexible, skilled, fast and only for counterattack.
