hi guys, I'm preparing for my 1st Dan Black Belt in December, so I have still 3 months to put me in shape, I'm 33 years old, 5'9" tall and 165 pounds, and about 15% body fat.
Now, I have to increase my training to have a better endurance (I'm training 4 hours a week with sabon nim and 4 by my self, test last 1 hour and is pretty intense), and I already have a green diet (I have a small heart disease, so I cannot eat large amounts of meat or carbs), can you guys give me ideas of what to do to get there?
(I'd like to get some diet and exercises ideas, and if you can, some grappling for self defence, as it's needed for that test)
Good luck with your testing. 3 months is a plenty time to get ready. I'm sure you'll all memorize all your techniques and forms. I would concentrate on the conditioning parts to make sure you don't gas out during your testing.
Definitely getting into physical shape is the biggest challenge you will face for the test, everything else is probably second nature by now. Tae Kwon Do ground stuff is mostly geared toward getting an opportunity to stand up.

Not if you're doing Hakimura TKD. They focus almost all of their energies on groundwork out of an inverted flamingo stance.

Try not to get too worried. Ask your teacher what you should be doing. Relax
well, I'm not too worried about it, I could be tested this weekend about knowledge and forms meaning, but, I'm not in the best shape, I don't think I can perform all the poomses with the correct strength, and I'm sure not in shape enough to fight back 2 black belts in free sparring for 2 minutes , but I'm working on that
You've got plenty of time (with 3 months) to get your endurance and conditioning in a better state of readiness. However, you need to make out a good workout schedule and stick to it.

It's all about making your training a habit that you feel compelled to do each day, jorge. Keep picturing yourself wearing that black belt and that'll motivate you.
Hi, Firstly good luck with your test. When i did my first Dan in karate it invloved knowing all techniques, each kata, and some good sparring, so i got my grading sheets out from white belt which gave names (in japenese) of all techniques, and studied them as much as i could, making sure they became second nature. Also i sparred as much as i could for about two months prior to the grading, which helped develop my stamina.
My Judo Dan grade was different as i had to fight in a competition and win a certain amount of fights as well as carry out a theory exam. Like the karate i studied each technique with there names, but started running for a couple of months before the competion to develop stamina, and lifted weights to help with strengh. LOTS and LOTS of sparring, to become a better fighter which also helped with reactions timing distance etc. aLso i watched what i eat for about a month before, eating no oily food or sweets and chocolats. Turkey, chicken grilled, tuna pasta, potatoes and oatmeal and fruit&veg. I was drinking about 5 liters of water a day. It really helped!
I recommend if you want to learn some grappling, go to a BJJ or judo school and take part in a couple of beginner classes. You will be shown a few basic techniques, then drill them over and over again untill they become second nature
Hope this was helpfull

Sorry, i forgot that you cant have much meat and carb. Try soya protein shakes mixed with milk and a bannana. the banna gives a bit of taste along with being a good energy source and the protein will help with muscle recovery. Of course, we all know the benefits of milk!

yes, soya and bannana shake taste good, I'm also drinking some other interesting shakes (like apple, pear, orange and bannana, all mixed together).
about exercising I'm doing something like that you said, I let the poomse (forms) and theory to practice at home (we have to learn all the korean names of forms, stances, punches and kicks), and I go to Dojang to have as many sparrings as I can, I've lost about 2 lbs by now.
I'll try an olympic wrestling gym I know to train some grappling.
yes, getting there, I'm feeling easy now, I think I'm doing it just right, as I said, practicing the forms daily at home and gettin in better shape, I've lost about 2 lbs by now, and there's still 2 and a half months to go
