Both your parents are born in Vietnam, but you're Chinese... So your grandparents were Chinese immigrants who moved to Vietnam then had your parents who then moved to Britain to then have you, causing you to be Chinese of blood but Vietnamese/Chinese/British of identity?

Do you speak Chinese? I know some from my years of Korean school before I went to the International school...

Wow spot on. Grandparents tried to escape communism... Parents tried to escape communism. And I'm ashamed to say I cannot read or write Chinese, but I am fluent(enough) in Cantonese, and I'm planning(But probably won't get around to it) on learning Mandarin, as well as reading and writing. But if Hangul is as easy to pick up(the basics), I'll look into picking it up over the summer. Now I know what I'll be ordering at a Korean BBQ.

Well, why bother to learn Mandarin when most people speak both Cantonese and Mandarin?:P Also, Cantonese sounds a lot cooler than Mandarn:P
Just say MaekJu Juseyo at the Korean BBQ:P

You'd be suprised at the difference. I can't understand a word of Mandarin, and it depends where you go. A lot of big cities in mainland China are mostly Mandarin and it is apparently the most spoken language in the word. And if I"m gonna learn how to read and right, I might as well learn Mandarin whilst I'm at it.

This is awesome! Don't know how I missed out on this. When you have some free time could you please translate the names of my 2 boys?

Forum Name: SuperCrew

Forum Name: SuperCrew
Name/Word -> Hangul: Audie
Font Colour: Black

Thanks alot. This will look great on their gear bags. Might have to wait a few years for Audie as he is only 14 months, but you know what I mean...

Here you are!

I only put in Eric and SuperCrew, as I do not know how to pronounce "Audie". Could you post how to say his name phonetically?

Most of the kids who go to school learn BOTH Mandarin and Cantonese in addition to their local dialect...
But also inside these lingual regions they have different dialects...

Speakers of Cantonese are taught Mandarin but no vice versa. The vast majority of Chinese in the mainland learn only Mandarin. Since the handover from the British, the CCP has been pushing for HK folks to become more fluent with Mandarin, which is the lingua franca of the nation as a whole, local dialects notwithstanding.
