Well, Monkey Steals the Peach is one of my favorite moves, but there's the monkey double back kick that's fun, and a bunch of other moves. I'm going to miss my class tonight, but at the next class I'll take some pictures of different moves and upload them so you can see them.

This link takes you to a video of Paulie Zink competing in an empty hand comp. at the San Diego Internationals in the 80s, he's doing Lost Monkey: YouTube - Monkey

This one is of master Zink doing the first Monkey Staff form that you learn out of the two: YouTube - Monkey Staff

Thought you might like to see them...even though he's being a poo poo head :P

Think of it this way;

A animal style or move, doesnt always show that particular animal.

Many chuan fa moves, traditionally use animal names or short descriptions in a whimsical faashion as to "hide" what is actually going on per move. Also, such names were made in more interesting to record/remember.

So a move, though described as a animal, could not. Or a move that has a name, could look like a variety of animals.

Simply, I could posts many pics and ask people to guess what animal. In many cases, there would be a vaiety of responses.

I am glad that the thread i started months ago has now spread and become a large discussion...

I ended up never really even finishing the monkey kung fu tape mentioned in the beginning of the thread because as also mentioned it was one of paulie zinks' older videos, which didnt really practically teach the moves, it was more of a guided presentation.

I agree it can give you a idea, present some sort of education, but it cannot concisely teach.

Hey, dont misunderstand me, I have many many books, magazines, vids, dating from the 60's and up (vids started in the 70's) and they are good for general reference and scholar studies.

yeah i agree but not teach to the effect of refinement, a teacher can see if your not doing it quite right,and ajust you, but as a referance and for study it can be invaluble.

Indeed, the common idea. As I think we went off topic to another thread discussing the very thing

Yeah there was a thread a long time ago about this. I never rlly meant teach to the point of mastery/refinement/whatever. I meant so that i could have a basic understanding of the moves presented in the video (Not the entire style) enough to be able to roughly copy them.

Copying something isnt the same as learning. There may be hidden explanations and details.
