Shaolin kung fu 5 animals

As im sure youve ll heard me tell you I learn both wing chun and shaolin kung fu.

The more I do wing chun the more I get bored with it, its been that way from the onset but the 5 animals kung fu has kept me going to my classes.

Unfortunately My sifu seems to have the opposite logic, he knows wing chun is brilliant for self defense and I am glad he teaches it too us but I want to start defending myself using shaolin kung fu as a pose to the wing chun kung fu. I train with one of the senior students out side of classes and he is similar to me in his passion for shaolin.

The question is how can I bring that immediate attack response that comes with wingchun into shaolin, when someone does a 'test punch' at me my immediate reaction is a wing chun move fairy enough, but I want my immiediate reaction to be a shaolin move. The problem facing that is that shaolin moves take a lot more movement to execute than wing chun so not only do I have to increase my speed all round I need to train in a way that embeddes shaolin kung fu into my mind

I learn 5 animals kung fu (tiger, leopard, crane, snake, dragon) and I train hard at them at the moment but I need a better training method other than executing the moves I know repeatedly and doing forms

any ideas????

PS sorry for the question length just thought it would save me explaining al the details on various replies

thankyou

To me, the five basic animals are

Tiger, Eagle, Snake, Crane, Dragon

If you mention Leopard and Tiger together seems to be redundant, using a big cat twice. How much different can these two be in application?

from what I know tiger is characterized by its power, as a pose to leapord which is charactized by its speed.

although by your argument you have two bird crane and eagle, isnt that the same as having two cats.

Hmmn, interesting....but both cats of clawing....

Both birds dont have the same....

But to "split hairs", each animal contains some moves/application as another.

yes this is true, in any case it depends upon the instructor, some may choose

dragon, mantis, scorpion, dog, chicken

but I do not know enough about shaolin too confirm any of this, its merely badly educated guesses

Why does Shaolin have anything to do with it?

LeiWuLong has a spectacular aura about

The best combo for me is Snake and Bear (tiger). Bear or tiger for power and snake fist for speed

We train in the five animals of Shaolin at our school as well. I tend to really like leapord moves, but snake takedowns are so fun!

I find the animal concept, unusual

I think it tends to make people want to become like the animal they choose, which prevents them training properly as thier too worried about 'looking' like a snake or a leapord.

I agree. It is over-rated.

Personally I don't know too much about Shaolin Kung-fu, its taught here as simply five animals knug-fu. But it uses the same 5 animals as you mentioned, and it approaches other styles like Eacle CLaw, Mantis, Monkey etc etc as progressions of the basic principles of the original five.

I'm not too sure how to change the pattern you have already set yourself. But, I am curious as to why you trying re-program yourself ot change you current reactions?

Shaolin 5 animals is not authentic. Everytime you turn around, it seems like 5 different animals (pending story)
