Does anyone really believe the street v. ring theory anymore? Sanda is a combat sport not a exact style of martial art. People do train soley for sanda just as they do for mma. They don't train in an art called sanda but rather they train techniques that are proven to be effective in their sport.

Cung Le is awesome gotta love a scissor takedown and his kicks are crazy. However Frank has a wealth of mma expierence and is really one of the smartest fighters I've ever seen. He's fought decent opponents like Renzo Gracie and Phil Baronni (can't believe I just said that) but, as of yet hasn't fought any of the top fighters in the 185lbs weight class. I think Frank will win by either gnp or sub. But I'd really like to see Cung win.

I can't believe you just said Phil Baroni was a decent opponent. We can't be friends anymore.

I agree, Frank should win this fight. He's a complete dickface, but he should win.

LOL I know, like mid way through typing it I felt dirty. You ever see that fight in the UFC against Lawler when Baroni wins on luck and climbs the cage and screams "I'm the f$%cking best!"? Dude me and my friends do that all the time it's hilarious.

LOL! Yeah, he's such a bag of douche. I heard he wanted to train with us, apparently, back in the day when he had a real rivalry going with the Renzo/Serra camp. I believe we politely ignored that request.

That would have been awesome. I'd be like so what did you do today Joe? And you could've been like "Choked out the New York bad ass, I'm the f&*cking best!!!"

LOL! Good point, it would have been great to be able to tell that story later despite having to put up with his crap.

I do believe san shou is a real martial art/sport. What harm could occur winning a street fight with the same techniques as you use in your sport? If san shou gets all sumo with real pushing then it might be the very best training. One caveat , I read that elbows were illegal, that would be sad. If one could combine ufc and the sumo aspect it would be A+. This might be what we are treated to in Le vs. Shamrock. Bypassing the ground with a standing beat down. What will be interesting is seeing if Le will follow Shamrock to the ground or let him stand back up.

You're making it sound like he's going to have a choice to hit the ground.

I've seen a lot of Cung Le's San Shou fights and a few of his MMA fights. He does have excellent anti-throw/grappling technique, but Shamrock is pretty damn good at getting people where he wants them.

Joemopalata you make a good point. I think this points up the superiority of san shou to ufc however. In san shou you are awarded 3 big points for taking your opponent to the ground, perhaps I hope out of the ring, but then you go again. This is exactly what happened to me with my fights with hordes of jealous husbands. WC I am curious about how the first 30 seconds of the fight play out. A Navy Seal acquantance told me they were taught if you dont dispatch youre opponent in 10 seconds you are doing somthing wrong.

When you refer to San Shou as superious to MMA, in what way?

When husbands get jealous enough they come at you in groups. If your sport rewards ground work you could not be rewarded in this circumstance. If you have devoted yourself to a ufc sumo hybrid you will certainly have a better chance of explaining things to their wives.

UFC and San Shou are different rule sets. Niether are supurior to the other, though with the addition of the ground game, there is more to learn to be successful in MMA. As I stated in another thread, I believe whoever controls the pace will win. That will be apparent pretty fast.

As far as quick threat removal from a Seal...well yeah. Its a different thing. Seals cannot afford to let an opponent last very long because it is thier and thier comrade's lives on the line. MMA fighting is a sport....a very brutal sport, but they are still paid to put on a show, not really kill each other.

WC I believe the rule sets are what makes one sport superior to the other. Otherwise we would be playing tennis. If you see me fighting on the street my life is on the line. Otherwise I wouldnt be fighting. I look to the rules to inform me of useful techniques when I see them applied. San shou like many combat sports was created by the military. I agree there is more to be learned to participate in mma. Perhaps this is why ancient pankration came in two forms , one standing and the other standing and ground fighting. One for purists and the other for the intelectually challenged.
