I'm not sure if this has been posted before but, anybody know how to get used to the falling on your back in drunken kung fu? Or is it just.. Fall on your back a lot?

Start from a a crouching position first. Get used to doing it with less impact and as your body gets trained then you can do it from standing. Also expel the air out of your body when you hit the ground. I would advise getting someone who knows rolls and falls to teach you before you start trying it as you can really injure yourslef if you try something like a stiff back-fall without any real training.

Practice on a medium soft mat/in high grass. Practice Backward rolls, "Bridges", and fall on you back from a crouched position. After you get more confidence and technique, try to fall in a upraised position.

I am performing major surgery on this topic. This thread is not about the history of the style, the utility of the style, the alleged use of alcohol in the style or the Korean language. All posts unrelated to the original topic (help practicing a technique) will be deleted.
Do add, falling on your back, is generally not a good idea. Any art that has takedowns ot throws, will not have one having the back hit or absorb impact.

That post before mine, was that for post counting? How about the one after?
Hey, my post count has the same palaverment tone as anyone elses'
This is true, falling flat on your back is an excellent way to get the wind knocked out of you. Most (I dare say "all") break fall techniques involve using the arms to absorb some of the blow and prevent injury. However, I can't speak specifically for any Chinese martial arts.

Back break falls in the Chinese systems use the arms and and a bowing of the body to absorb the impact when fighting...like many other arts. However, some forms I've seen in the drunken style will perform a stiff back fall with the arms own at the side of the body. Its done to demonstrate the practitioners iron body and lack of fear. I STRONGLY recomend NOT doing anything like this unless you have trained with someone who can properly prepare you for it.
