whats the best way to kick ?

from what ive been told there are many ways to kick. For example in tae kwan do when you kick someone in the face you usually raise uo on to your toes and kick. In chinese martial arts you usually sink to do such a kick for weight, power, purposses. To day in class on of my fellow students popped his knee out of place because of how he kicked. Im not sure of how he did it? That started to get me thinking. I need to train smarter not harder. I forget to warm up sometime. So i wanted to know if anyone knows (in their opinion)the best way to kick. No particular kick really just the concept of kicking. And how to prevent injury to the leg, knee , hip ect.

Godde is right. You're going to get a lot of different answers because there are hundreds of different ways to kick. Mainly because there are hundreds of different kicking techniques.
I don't know what kind of TKD you've observed, but, in my style, we do NOT rise up on our toes to kick. We pivot on the balls of our feet in order to focus momentum and body weight into the technique.
If there is advice I can give on a 'proper' way to kick (or punch for that matter), it would be to kick with your entire body. Pivot and rotate and throw all your weight into your kicks. Don't kick at a target. Kick through your target.

Oh yeah, and if you want to help prevent injury during ANY kind of workout, you had better stretch before starting and then do cool down stretching afterwards.

Hope this helps.

I know what you mean by being on the toes. TKD exaggerates the pivot process and some practitioners remain on the ball of the foot. I throw my kicks Thai style, I use mostly hip power and remain weighted on my foot except for when I pivot.

Personally, I think it has more to do with training. Some systems use this rooted foot, rotateing hip, ankle, torso thing with some kicks which requires allot of flexibility and speed. Warm-up, practice, stretch and also don't forget strength building exercises to toughen up muscle tissue, ligamnets etc and prevent tearing.
