LOL at the firemans and belly to back. Cung needs to fight again, I'd like to see him against Robbie Lawler or Nick Diaz. If he beats them he deserves to move up in the rankings of middleweight.

Those would be excellent matchups! I think Cung Le could be the next big thing, he needs a good test like either one of those fighters.

Cung Le is pretty awesome - I would love to see him get back to fighting properly instead of focusing on movies/etc.. Be cool to have a Kung Fu guy rocking in the MMA world

Here's a little more info to put that clip into perspective. His opponent in that clip was Rudy Ott. Rudy is a pretty talented sanshou fighter, though you couldn't tell when he went up against Cung Le.

I think Rudy is also Cung Le's top student. They do all those demos together where Cung Le throws him around like rag dolls.
Cung Le was a San Shou fighter, not necessarily a Kung Fu guy and not a quite MMA fighter yet. All his San Shou stats are not counted in his current 5-0 MMA record. He had to train differently for his MMA fights as the rules are different, especially the grappling part.

I am sure that by the time Cung Le has to face someone who can and is willing to take him to the ground he will be well prepared. I am sure that his submission game right now is not up to par, but I would imagine that his game is alot more like Maurice Smiths game was in that he will work to stay safe on the ground and get back to standing. With the current standup rules in place in MMA favoring the striking he can be very effective with that gameplan.

I'm not sure if I already told this story or not but the first time I met Cung Le was at Comdex in Vegas, in the 90's. He was promoting some scanner for a Taiwanese company called Umax. He would do a little martial arts demonstration with one of his student. I just remembered seeing this totally ripped Asian guy. Later on, I heard more and more about this guy. Back then, I didn't know who he was.
I know he's not that old, early 30's, and he's gotten a ton of fight experience under his belt but he's still somewhat inexperienced in MMA game (you don't see him appear anywhere on anybody's top 10 list). His win over Frank Shamrock was most impressive (Frank losing to Nick Diaz also dropped Cung Le's stock a bit in my opinion, similar to how BCS ranks the strength of your opponents)
I hope he hasn't gone totally Hollywood (as he's been busy making movies instead of fighting) and get back to the fight game while he's still in his prime.
Yeah I really like Cung I'm not quite sure about the next big thing yet but, I'd like to see how he handles an extremely smart well rounded fighter like Diaz and then pretty much the Roberto Duran of MMA Robbie Lawler who never backs up has excellent boxing and a ton of power. That would be such a great match up.

I think the strongest thing Cung Le has going for him is excellent timing and power, and a pretty good take down defense. I don't know if he will be a big thing in MMA, but if he is I think it will highlight the damage striking and kung fu throws can do...even though he isn't really a kung fu guy.
