Steven Seagal is reputed to be one of the biggest douche bags in the entire MA world. He's got a reputation, as some have mentioned, for trying to pick fights with people on the set. That's how he got choked the f out by Gene LaBell. I mean, how do you make Martial Arts your career choice and not know who "Judo" Gene LaBell is? The guy is one of the ugliest people in the world, it's not like you wouldn't recognize him if you knew who we was!
The best "movie" martial arts guy is easily Chuck Norris. The guy was a kickboxing champion many times over and he has a black belt in Brazilian Jiujitsu under the Machado Brothers? That's ridiculous.
Until i see this 'supposedly confrontation' between lebelly and Steven Seagal caught on film, it's plain lies from some magazine article that you read.
Shoot hoss, that's all these old and new actors such as jeanclaude and chuck and any other you care to mention can bring onto films are kicks, punches, and rediculous scripts and stories. I admire all these kickboxing actors like jean and chuck, but they are simply just that 'kickboxers' with no acting skills. Plus, they've never done any bodyguard work nor been security for powerful persons in the world. But Steven Seagal has done all of their kicks and and punches and much much more on film than these B kickboxing actors you speak of.
Chuck Norris would completely maul Steven Seagal. It wouldn't even be a little bit close.

I wasn't there so I can't be 100% certain. However, I heard this story from a very reliable source that had nothing to do with any magazine or press.
With regards to whether Chuck can beat up Steven Seagal argument sounds very childish among adults here.

Me too, very reliable sources. It's kind of MA lore at this point.
That's not childish! Come on! What else would you expect this thread to degrade into?!?! Besides,my response was in reference to this comment:

This is flat out ridiculous and shows people's lack of knowledge. If you want to comment on how great Segal is fine, but if you want to trash other legit MAs guy in the process that's gonna get called out. And Chuck is a legit MA guy with an extensive knowledge. The dude is for real, that's the deal.

I have to agree here. While Steven Seagal does have some credentials, Chuck Norris was a world class champion kickboxer who proved himself in the ring over and over again.
Besides, I remember when Seagal came on the Arsenio Hall Show back in the '80s and said he could beat any man alive. Shortly after, Bill "Superfoot" Wallace, Benny "The Jet," and several other proven fighters challenged him to pick whichever one of them he wanted to fight, name a place, and they would fight him and beat him. He never accepted the challenge.

Yep, he's known for being all talk. As for his skills, I don't have a lot of faith in Aikido as a sound fighting system (self defense it's probably a little better) so right off the bat I have doubts. But my understanding is that in the world of Aikido he is considered to be very good.

i was a kiddie then but i think i remember that. then there was that black belt magazine issue.....cant remember if it was shortly after that incident or in the early 90s when they all called him out to a challenge.
he musta been pretty good to be one of the few "gaijin" to run a school in Japan. im not really fond of Aikido, but im not trying to bash either. against other guys like Van Damme...who was also a champion as well as a coach. and Chuck Norris
Segal would get his arse whooped. someone said ealier that segal did all of thier kicks an punches?.......when? i dont recall seeing Segal perform a Jumping Spinning Helicopter back-kick to someone's head.....am i missing something?

Thanks for replying with your comments of Sensei Steven Seagal. I thoroughly enjoy how SSS beat up the gangbangers in his most recent movie "Urban Justice". SSS also has a uncanny talent for humor when it comes to defeating the bad guys on film too. Also, i like the 'eight pieces of brocade' shirts that SSS wears nowadays. I hear the brocade shirts are of healing in quality to the wearer.
