I have to say I liked Segal's early work. Up until Undersiege 2. Then after he was wearing his expensive fancy clothes and they had to speed up the film for the action sequences I was like wtf.
There is a great scene with Dan Inosanto in Out for Justice though.

Well I haven't seen anything past Fire Down Below but up till then he was all the same. I am sure he hasn't changed any. He just doesn't impress me at all to go out and see his latest movies.

Wow, you guys are really harsh towards this guy. So hes made a bunch of bad movies, but when I was a kid watching out for justice and hard to kill, I thought he was awesome. His style is great for the screen. Its movies like that which inspire kids to start martial arts. So I give him credit for that. Plus he is a real martial artist and yes he does think his style is best because thats what he practices and maybe the style is the best for him.
I mean, you can bust on the guy all you want to, but if you had even a shot at having a small role in one of his DVD or made for tv movies I bet you would be ecstatic and think you were on your way to hollywood.

Uh...wrong.
So just because the guy is a Hollywood star he's allowed to be a total douche bag? Why do you assume that just because you look up to movie stars that everyone does? Not everyone worships stars just because they're stars and not everyone wants to be one. If given a choice I can tell you for sure I would NOT want to be a Hollywood star appearing in movies.
Bottom line: The guy is known to be an asshole who would spit in your face and treat you like a floating terd he was trying to sink with his piss. And yet you think that because he's famous he's different than everyone else and is above criticism.

You'll notice nobody is challenging his skill level as much as his attitude and his ego. If we are talking about a true martial artists, you really can't have one without the other. Otherwise, how is he different from a thug?

Very good point, complete. For instance, at the Alabama Karate Circuit tournaments that I have been competing in, there is a group of about eight 'black belts' who come from a school in Mississippi and only compete in the adult point sparring division. While a few of them are respectful, nice guys who seem to know their stuff, several of them are completely disrespectful of their opponents as well as the judges and senior black belts observing the mathces. They hoot and hollar during other people's matches, call points from the sidelines, and strut around in the ring much like George Jefferson used to do on the TV show The Jeffersons. No joke there. Now these guys wear black belts, but are they really black belts? No way. Have they learned the humility and respect that a true black belt should have? Absolutely not.
So, while Seagal is an accomplished martial artist, he negates all he has done for the arts by letting his ego get the best of him.

I was not really aware that he had a huge ego or was a jerk or anything although it wouldnt surprise me as a lot of hollywood peeps do. I was really just referring to his movie/MA accomplishments, which I think are quite impressive.
maybe my hollywood comment was a bit over the line..lol.. but if someone came knocking on my door and was going to offer me 2 mill for doing some spin kicks and throws and such, I would say yes.
