Home Country: | I think when you fight and spar you feel less pain because of adrenalin but I think it also comes down to how mentally strong you are and weather you can stay mentally strong when you are tired and getting hit. I think when a fighter loses his focas and drive he has lost the fight because any hits will take the confidence out of you and you are more likely to be knocked out.

Home Country: | I think you just gotta train as hard as you can. The tougher you get, the more pain you can take. I've got a pretty high pain threshold, thank God. I still feel the pain but it doesn't get to me anywhere near as much as it used to.

Home Country: | Ehh, there is a big difference in being hurt and being injured. I learned a long time ago, Oklahoma drill, that even though it may hurt the body still does what you tell it to. If you still have strength/mobility in the body part then thats all that matters.

Home Country: | I have a fairly good pain threshold.I am able to take frequent blunt slashing to the knuckles fairly often.Other than that not sure.I'm not real sure though because I've
never really done full contact.

but the fact and reality of fighting remains - however good one is, if one does not have a high pain threshold, one will succumb quickly at the first sign of pain/injury/blood. so the question is, how does one handle pain?
is there a mental/physical training to withstand pain? how would you react to, say, a broken nose, teeth, a kick to the groin/ribs, a broken arm(amber)?
The question is, will you/should one carry on fighting despite a bloodied face or simply surrender? | Welcome to The Forums!
Well, one way to train to withstand physical pain is PROPER meditation. I dont know too much about meditation, but I know that to withstand physical pain, you need to do "something meditation" and not "empty meditation".
Answer to you question: Well, it all depends on how bad the injury is, right?

I say this because it is rare that anyone have a degree of such practice

I dont think everyone has the patience to acquire the level of meditation to limit pain. I think it is a rare practice.
However, adrenaline and other mental aspects play a most important role of dealing with pain in a quick stressful situation.
Have you ever cut yourself and not "feel it" -(severely) until after you looked upon the wound?

Home Country: | I would suggest some form of contact sparring with some real energy. If you've never been hit it can really mess with you and that's not a good thing if your in a fight. Mostly I try not to get hit, but when I do its not nearly as big a deal as when I first started training. My body can withstand more due to the training and my mind tends to concentrate on getting me out of the situation I'm in then feel the pain later. I think a lot of people that train are like this. Its what my friends and I call the "That's-gonna-hurt-tomorrow syndrome." Guess it applies to drinking alchohol too |
