Abrasion on rubber mats

I typically train 2-3 hours a day on rubber mats for taekwondo and recently started training quick sliding movements. There will be a lot of friction and heat under my feet. The skin under my big toes will tear off in small pieces so I use leukoplast. Let's say I don't tape them up is it possible to develop protective calluses? Any other remedies? 'cos dust and hair sticks easily to leukoplast.

why don't you tape them up? i find that even taped you do develop calluses because there is still friction it is just reduced.

i used to get them from Judo mats, the base of my feet was ok as they were pretty tough but the tops of my toes got burned a few times. Now the skin grows prehardened and no more burns, actually no more sensation at all.
