Martial Arts InjuriesDiscuss how to deal with martial arts injuries and illnesses here
I wonder if my nose is broken or bruised??
My already LARGE NOSE is swelled up (wide), but not black and blue?
It' very painful to touch the top bump and bothers me to touch it at all.
I tried to blow it and felt some real pain.
If I put my head down it throbs.
Tried to remember if I took any good shots to the nose
on Thursday or Saturday but, nothing comes to mind,
however, I often take many shots during self-defense
or sparring (I believe in some contact while training).
I'm not one to run to the doctor right away, so
I'll see if it improves over the next few days.
Just another annoyance, but I think I'm going to
class tomorrow anyway, even though someone will strike
me in the nose by accident (that always seems to happen,
when you go to class with any type of injury, someone will
always strike the injuried area by accident).
with my foot problems every one hounded me till i finally went into the doctors (i have to go back Mon, it is getting worse ) so i will do that to you now.... go see a doctor, why risk it! i can see risking a some other body parts, but your nose is on your face, if it is broke you want the set back correctly.
Can you breathe through it?
I can relate. I hurt my ribs a while back and every time I sparred I got caught in the same spot.
Well I can't breathe through it right now, but I could after I blew it, but that was too painful.
As for the ribs, I hear ya.
I broke a rib during sparring and was out for a while, but I
wear a chest protector now.

Well I'm going to do just what you did and wait.
If there is no improvement they I'll have to do something,
my nose is big enough as it is.
Advantage of potentially broken nose over potentially broken foot: If your nose gets screwed up, you'll still be able to walk.
Disadvantage of potentially broken nose over potentially broken foot: Losing your sense of smell sucks.
Waiting a few days makes sense, but I wouldn't wait too long.

when I got my nose broken, it didn't get blue or black, didn't bleed either, but it hurted a lot, so now, besides big, my nose is also ugly, but who cares?, get some pain pills and some ice, that'll make it.
Bummer, I'm not going to class tonight due to this nose thing.
I can't miss tomorrow night (Ed Parker technique extensions)
and even more important Jiu-jitsu on Thursday.
I hope the swelling goes down and the soreness goes away tonight
(I would be happy with any improvement).
The guys in work think it's broken and then proceeded to harass
me for a few hours (Ha! Ha!) but, what comes around goes around
and I'll get even with them and then some.
It sounds like it could be broken, i reccomend you wait a week or so and if it the same or gets worse and you find it hard to breath from, then it probably is broken. The best advice i could give you though is go to the doctors NOW and get it checked
