oh i get those sometimes cause they run the piss out of us in my Unit.
usually i just take some aspirin and using tiger or dragon balm an let nature takes its course

Well, to start with what sort of shin splints do you have? There are two types, one is micro fractures in the bone, the other is swelling in the tibialis anterior. In the latter the pain comes from the muscle sheath stretching.
Generally you wouldn't feel any swelling anyway since the muscle sheath doesn't stretch but..
If its on the inside.. Have you had it proffesionally diagnosed?
Just sayin, you should get it checked with a doctor, if it is bone based then you will just have to stay of it for awhile. Basically, in that situation the bone just needs to repair.
Runners often get this type of shin splints because they are running nearly everyday. When you run the bones absorb alot of impact, the result being microfractures. This happens everytime you run but it is nothing and the body repairs and becomes stronger. However when people run everyday the fractures start to add up and then you have a problem. The key to avoiding it is to remember to have adequate recovery periods from your activity of choice. Anyways, get back to us with the verdict ok?
In fact, that brings up a good point. Always avoid running on concrete were possible. Grass is good. But regardless of where you run, always, always pay out for the best most supportive cushiony shoes you can buy. If running is a part of your life then you must take care of yourself. The extra money you spend on shoes pays itself of in terms of doctors appointments and pain killers. Not just now, when you are older too. Something to consider.
Also, don't eat carobean chocolate. No science this time, it just sucks..
On my daily run about 2 miles of it is on the road, after that i get about 5-6 miles of lovely soft fields where i can run around being chased by cows....
Also i paid an awful lot of money for my shoes... i think i just have weak lower legs from all the mountain bike trials and jumping off silly high things i used to do

Not trying to acheive much to be honest, i just really enjoy running... It gives me a chance to relax, think, enjoy the beautiful country side... and my dogs need the exercise!

Nah, nothing to vent as such. Its just that if you were running for fitness reasons/to improve your martial arts/that sorta thing then we could change your plan of attack to compensate for your tendancy to get lower leg injurys. But it sounds like you have good reasons to do what you do so, take a bone supplement. And chill, which you are already doing. Nicely done
