Coming Down From A Hrd Workout.

So it's needless to say that I love the system that I study, I am sure that everyone feels the same level of enjoyment from the system they study, but I have been having a bit of a problem that I was wondering if someone has some advice on.

Recently, for the last 2 months or so, I have hit a bit of a milestone in my martial arts life and my body has been torpedoing through some things. I try to train hard as much as I can, and love my workous with my sifu. I train with one of my training brothers on the weekend, and we train hard to the point that my legs and arms are numb and weak at the end of the workout. No matter how bad of a mood I am in walking into the training, I walk out in this weird sense of euphoria, like our energies feed off each other and the pissed off one always feels better after.

When I get done training though, my entire body feels like it has been charged with something for the next 20 hours or so and I generate a lot of body heat. It will move through flashes of agony (it feels like there is poison in my blood when this happens, it actually feels like water waves over my body) which happens every couple of hours within the 20 hour timeframe, but most of the time my body just feels energized, moreso than a mental thing, like it feels like I can generate fire or something. I know it sounds ridiculous, and I am having a hard time explaining it, but does anyone have this happen to them? Does anyone know how to control this?

Having worked out for a long time, I know what ATP flux feels like, and this feels very different than that. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks guys.

i think that you should try meditating after your work out and see if that helps.

That might work actually to calm me out. Have to admit I don't know the first thing about meditation, I know about it and some of the theories, but not really sure where to start. Will have to ask one of my training sisters on it, she does it a lot to even out her system. Guess I need to get my but to a book store too.

The slight euphoria you get is a phenomenon commonly called a "runner's high". Basically it is the result of your brain producing extra painkillers and the like to battle periods of physical stress. So, this is a good thing that you feel this way after a work out.

Second, try upping your protein intake just after a work out just a little. I used to get feelings like you described until I started to take in some protein after a work out. The big thing that made me notice this was one time my legs were still weak about 12 hours after a particularly tough class and they stayed that way till I drank a high protein drink. Since then I realized that I could prevent that pain by taking in some protein right after class.

Never thought about those. Thanks guys. Yeah, the protein thing may be the key, and maybe I am not cooling down enough. I usually do stretching as my cool down (about 10 mins or so) and just keep moving around to relax my system a bit. I started looking at the meditation stuff online as well, couldn't hurt I guess. Ok, time to head out and train again (seriously). See ya guys. Thanks for the info, this helps a lot.
