Martial Arts InjuriesDiscuss how to deal with martial arts injuries and illnesses here
About 4 weeks ago I started having pain in my 5th Metatarsal, I can walk ok on it but cant bear any weight on it when I 'roll' onto the side of my foot. It hurts to touch. I have the same pain in my heel - at the back close to the bsole of my foot.
I dont remember injuring it, and it doesn't seem to be improving?
Anyone any advice?

it might seem like nothing much at times and different at other times. I say get it checked out.
i made that decision tonight, because my hip started popping.

The metatarsals are very delicate. They can easily get a stress fracture, which is where they slowly break over time. Another member had one of these this year.
This means that you easily could have a broken bone without any specific injury.
Or, you could just have an inflamed tendon. It happens to me periodically. However, when I have inflamed areas around my metatarsals, they actually don't hurt to the touch. That might just be a difference between us, or it could be the difference between types of injuries.
Especially with two separate areas of intense pain, I'd suggest seeing a doctor and verifying that it isn't anything dangerous. Even if it's only an inflamed area, they may be able to help you with it.

pain in my heel - at the back close to the sole of my foot.
I've had the same pain for over a year until recently the pain got worse especially in the morning when forst walking after getting out of bed.
A year ago when I test I did a sidekick break and my left foot and my heel was never the same after that ... so I figured it was some type of fracture.
I went to the podiatrist and he took some xrays and they revealed I had a heel spur on my left heel.
"A heel spur is a hook of bone that forms on the bone at the back of the foot. A heel spur is commonly associated with plantar fasciitis."
I am wearing a night splint and doing morning stretches to cure it... but that can take anywhere from 3 mos to a year.
Have it checked out by a foot doctor ... don't wait as long as I did as it most probably will get worse and take longer to heal.
(i am the member that had the stress fracture) stress fractures do not show up on x-rays unless they have already started to heal, which sounds unlikely in clickedy's case. you need to get a bone scan to see if you have a stress fracture. as far as heel problems go, you can sprain heels (i have done that as well) if that is the case, it could have got worse from constant use and i have heard that once you sprain a something, you are more prone to injury of that area..... but i hope that is not really true.

I agree and give testament. A sprain does not heal stringer, like a broken bone.
The chances of getting a injury of the same sprain or nearer gets higher because the area is weakened.
Even with changes in wheather/temp, I still feel sprains from decades ago

That post before mine, was that for post counting? How about the one after?

I also had a stress fracture in the same place. Its definitely a good idea to get it checked out sooner rather than later, if I had done so I'd have been sitting out of sports for about a month instead of three.
