Martial Arts InjuriesDiscuss how to deal with martial arts injuries and illnesses here
I keep on getting a pain in my shoulder, it's like I pulled something. I'm not sure if it is the muscle, but the pain usually comes from the area of deltoid anterior. I've had this trouble for as long as I can remember, once in a while, I'd wake up and it'd hurt like Hell. I don't think it's because of me exercising but it might be the way I sleep (on the side, one arm under the pillow). It's annoying as Hell, any of you guys got any ideas what it is/ experience it/ know any miracle cures?
Not all shoulder pain is associated with muscle. One of my students has been getting shoulder pain. At one point, so extreme, he went to a accupunturist. (Against my advice)
If it is associated with the joint, it can appear to spread down the arm. Even as far as the elbow. This is known as referred pain. (My wife had studied massage for a little while-she went on to study physical therapy, but changed her carreer choice)
I say see a physician/physiotherapist to get a better idea of the problem and treatment.

Have you given it a week to rest? It could be many things from a cartilage tear (bankart lesion/slap tear), injured rotator cuff, tendonitis, and just a pulled muscle. If it takes longer than 7-10 days and the pain isnt going away or is returning upon exercise, go to an orthopedic surgeon for a diagnoses.
If it is anything other than a pulled muscle, your friends will be rest, stretching and PT. And the rehab and protocol is basically the same no matter what you have, so you dont always need a definitive diagnoses for something like this although it is nice to know for sure. If the pain isnt going away after 3-4 months of rest and PT, an MRI and then surgery are your next options.

I doubt it's anything as serious as a cartilage tear(Even though I have no idea what it is, it sounds painful.) It only really hurts when it gets into a certain angle.

Yes, that sounds like a cartilage tear. You have a menicus/cartilage in your shoulder which damages pretty easy, even from just wear and tear. My guess just from your description is a SLAP tear, but you need to see an ortho to get a diagnoses. Dont go the general family doc as they arent the best at diagnosing these problems...unless the one you go to is really good. A good PT can diagnose it as well.

I'm gonna go to my local clinic anyways, because I don't have any other specialist doctors and I'll see where to go from there, but thanks.
Bah, I don't wanna miss Judo, but it seems like it's gonna be safer to sit out. ¬__¬

Keep in mind that without an mri, they cant really diagnose you, but they can make some educated guesses. Even with the MRI, surgery is the only way to know whats wrong with a lot of shoulder problems. They generally only do the mri if you are considering surgery.
If I were in your shoes, I would get a script for physical therapy, do lots of icing, and get some ultra sound. 1-3 months of this heals a lot of shoulder problems. If its not healing, then surgery will be your only option.

Good luck and keep us posted.
I've had this kind of pain before, and it usually goes away after a week or two or resting. But it got worse overnight, it hurts to lift my arm up or sideways.
