saw this movie last night. was probably the worst movie I have seen in a long time. was bad from the first 5 minutes to the last second. just an awful plot. Terrible job all around from actors, to producer, to director, to story.
In some kung fu schools, red sash is a step higher black sash. Black sash in "most" kung fu schools indicate teacher level, or the Sifu title.
In Judo, a red belt is awarded to 9th dan males and 8th dan females. I think it is the highest achievable belt as only Jigoro Kano, the founder has been ranked a 10th dan, and out of respect for him, nobody would be promoted to as such.

Really? I enjoyed it a lot. What exactly didn't you enjoy about it?

Really? I wouldnt even know where to begin. Plot was terrible. Characters were terrible. Awful acting. No explanation of anything going on. I mean it almost seems like it was put together by first graders.

I would say 5th graders. There were parts in the movie where the actors were talking, but the words made NO SENSE for what was going on in the movie. NONE! The ending sucked ass. I'm glad I only rented it.
How did the ending suck ass? He kept true to his honor and code and was finally recognized and rewarded for it instead of being mocked.
I don't want to spoil it for anyone else who hasn't seen it yet....but suffice it to say, there are too many unanswered questions. Plus, it would be different if he was actually TRYING to get his redbelt.

But why was he recognized? Why did he get a red belt? It made no sense. There was no explanation for anything that was going on. I watched it with 3 other people and we had to pause it a few times and ask each other what was going on as if we missed something. Things were happening for no reason at all.

Its not even worth seeing. I dont think I could stand it if I was bored out of my mind and it was on tv. never back down actually looks better. i dont think you could make a movie as bad as redbelt if you tried to.

Hahaha, with all the bad things that people are saying about the movie, I don't think anyone else is going to watch it...but I'll say SPOILER ALERT for the rest of this thread.
SPOILER ALERT
What unanswered questions? A lot was implied at the end. And no, he wasn't trying to earn his redbelt, but live up to his teacher's standards and honror...remember, he said there was only one person who has a redbelt at the beginning of the film...and then what he said about the blackbelt, which is what he was something like, that the teacher considers an equal, or worthy (or worthy enough to teach). To be considered an equal by a man he respects so much and to be given the redbelt was his greatest triumph of the film, because he held onto his honor.
