I really appreciate how they gave batman some training. It pissed me off in Spiderman how the guy had never thrown a punch and was owning criminal butt with kicks and stuff.
The Joker was absolutely perfect. Not a single bit of the character I didn't like. The fighting was realistic and undramatic. It didn't fake anything, it didn't do blatantly stupid stuff like shooting out of a car window or dramatic jumping and diving. This movie was gritty and real. I still don't understand why batman refuses to use firearms.
Because his parents were killed with a gun. Also its easy to accidentally kill someone even if you are trying to wound them. Its a risk he doesnt want to take. Although in the comics he did have to use a gun when he was a noob.

Even the best of men are capable of the most disgusting evil. Just as the most evil man is capable of showing kindness.
Do not be fooled into thinking your enemy's sin is worse than yours, or that your's is better than his.
Just saw it today, was a great film. My only gripe was that it was a bit overly long, and 2 face was a bit OTT make-up wise.
I was so ready to criticise Heath Ledgers performance, after all people were saying it was among one of the best screen performances of all time. I remember thinking that that must have been down to the fact that he's now dead (R.I.P), but now that I've seen the film I think that 'best screen performance' is an understatement if anything.
Gary Oldman was excellent as well, although I've quite biased with him because he is pretty much my all time favourite actor.

Ah, Steven Seagull, I bet nobody's thought of that before.
In relation to the thread on vigilante, I am so thankful that all these movie adaptation of marvel comic books superhero, batman included, all of the heroes don't wear underwears on the outside like in the comics. Oh, I can't look at Hugh Jackman in yellow spandex and black underwear. He has a decent uniform for a change. Batman movie character's costumes rather look good compared to the 60's television series, with underwear and all.

The only thing good about the Xmen movies were the fact the highlighted Wolverine the whole time. Other than that they were grossly incorrect and were garbage. I cant wait until Fox sells the rights back to Marvel but considering how much money they make off of the name I doubt they will have the decency to do that.

No explanation as to how the joker had the connections or experience to do anything he did...like set up bombs.
Two face just kind of became bad, they didnt pull you into that part of the movie, you just didnt feel bad for him and feel his pain to understand. So his girl died and he had scars? I would almost think from his character that he would have used that for good.
Parts of the plot were scattered. For example they didnt really explain the mob money thing too well. The story that alfred told bruce didnt make much sense...or maybe I just didnt catch it right but I dont see batman to get too deep in thought
Why would two face think he could shoot batman in the stomach at the end and have it actually penetrate his armor?
Why did the CEO even suggest bruce wayne was batman when the employee had the plans from the r+d dept? I never heard him say it was bruce, just that he knew they were developing stuff for batman...heck that could have been a contractor or something.

There is no explanation for Joker. He is just a maniacal genuis. Even in the comic books no one knows where he came from or who he really was.

You really need to get the Gotham Knight DVD in it the writers of several Batman comics talk about the Batman villians. Two Face is a man that has the capacity to know right from wrong but not the capacity to make those decisions for himself. He walked a tight rope as Harvey Dent being as perfect the "white knight" needed to be. When his world came crumbling down ( you know being critically burned and having the woman you love blown up) he cracked.

What was there to explain? Why do you think they were meeting in broad daylight...Batman doesnt come during the day. He had been terrorizing them. The chinese money guy was the last money launderer in town.

A- He was crazy. B- He had only met Batman once he didnt know the guy wore body armor, many criminals make the same mistake.

Oh come on that was one of the funniest scenes of the movie. It there purely for a laugh and to set up the the scene with the Lamborghini (sp?) crash.
If this movie confused you this much then I'm sure a movie like Hulk, which had a ****load of subtle references to the Marvel universe, was way more confusing.

Yes I agree with this statement!! Batman was GREAT and followed the comic closely!

Im not saying it wasnt a good entertaining movie...but in order for me to be able to say it was one of the best movies of all time, there needs to be more...for example better character development. It was a good movie with great actors and I suggest everyone see it. It may have followed the comic but the movie was written for comic and non comic fans. It is definitely the best movie of the summer and maybe year but I dont think it will go down as a legend.
and just an fyi - i am very critical of all movies...it takes a lot for me to say it was great

Better Character Development... Man you did not see the movie that I did. The characters in this Batman = BEST EVER for any previous one.

I could see that when talking about 2 face. It would have been better if Harvey Dent was in the last movie so he would have had more overall screen time.
But for Joker, that was the character development. He is a monster. There was no explanation for Grindel in Beowolf, it wasnt necessary.
And for Batman/Bruce, when he got to the point he wanted to reveal his indentity thats saying a whole lot considering how much time and effort he's put into his goal of ridding Gotham of crime. It was almost like a coming of age story. Then the decision to be the "bad guy" at the end.
I cant think of a better action movie and hard pressed to think of a better other genre movie. To be honest off the top of my head I cant.
What are some movies that you would call great. (I consider myself a harsh critic myself.)

Do you think Batman woulda worked with some Quantum Jiujitsu or Taekkyon(Spelling), high flying martial arts stuff? Or keeping to the more practical stuff.
Personally I've always been of the belief that if you are a great martial artist you should be able to do whatever you want to your opponent. (look up the "degree of difficulty" thread)
Sure he's leaving himself open for a right cross but what if you were fast enough to do spinning heel kick. I mean its not like he was fighting other martial artists he was just fighting guys (who prob didnt train in any sort of fighting they were just criminally minded).
I mean isnt the premise of every other martial arts movie that the hero is sick and no one else can **** with him. I mean look at every Tony Jaa movie, he was doing ridic stuff and without a wire.
