i still have a buncha movies in my collection from when i was in Korea that i havent got to watched yet an came across this one today.
Trailer:
YouTube - Korean Movie "GeoChilMaRu (2005)" Trailer
this is another new favorite. Geochilmaru (Toughest and Best)
its a low budget Korean flick, but the quality, plot, and choreography is better than some MA movies out there.
i liked how they used real martial artists in thier respective styles an they didnt pull too many punches. no wire-fu or any of that crap. the background music was cool too.
its about these Artists who are members of a MA website.
like a common MA website theres debates, arguments, trash talking etc.
but one of the contributors of the site who goes by the name Geochilmaru is said to be the best artist in Korea. so other members who doubt his skill challenge him.....and each other
he invites them to visit him in a villiage outside Seoul. he mails each of them a necklace, whoever collects all the necklaces through matches will earn the right to face
Geochilmaru. so you have a
-amatuer kickboxer who works as a stock broker
-a taekkyon teacher who lost his cheatin girlfriend and is shunned by his family, he finds solace in picking up his students an driving them to class in his Van
-a movie stuntman who does TKD and Hapkido
- a young Wushu master....who may really be or may not be Geochilmaru
-a break dancer who does boxing
-a female kindergarten teacher and kung fu master
-a fat kid who eats all the time an does Judo
- an my favorite character, a streetfighter who is really a Gangster but hopped in the Van an played along cause he was escaping from the cops
they all meet up in downtown Seoul an hop in a Van provided by the Taekkyon dude to drive to the villiage to where the matches commence
the storyline seemed very realistic to me. there are the philosophies of martial arts and ideologies that the characters are able to settle in thier matches
that they often discussed on the internet. the story also deals with some of thier personalities
like the Taekkyon guy who wants to find out if there is something valuable in his life that is worth to keep pushing on. the shy judo kid who is underestimated but is full of surprises
or the stuntman whose the type of keyboard warrior on the net that talks alot of trash but really isnt the badass he makes himself out to be, and the street fighter who thinks that
all the others are a bunch of punks who spent all thier lives training , kicking an punching at the air in thier dojangs while he actually fights for real on a regular basis.
this was a cool flick.
