Before a Competition

I am trying to prepare for a full contact kickboxing
Competition. Can anyone suggest some good conditioning exercises?

Could you start off by telling us the parameters of your training thus far and of the competition itself?

Good Luck, Edward, I prepare for competitions by doing a lot of cardio exercises to build my stamina. I do a lot of running apart from repeated punching, kicking and technique practice.

However, I also found a very interesting response to a similar question by Professor Gary Lee in Martialcafe.com

you can view his response by clicking on this link:

Well obviously make sure you do your roadwork and lots of sparring. I would also recommend allowing your partner to put some 16 oz gloves of and pound away at your midsection to get you used to taking hits there. Start of lightly and go for about 5 mins a day.

Also what a lot of people dont know and one of my secrets, practice negetives when weight training. Say you do a bench press, well the negetive part is when you lower the weight to your chest, but you do it slowly, taking about 5 - 8 seconds for the weight to reach your chest. It can be worked with any movement and it will strenghen your tendons and ligements so you can take more hits with power. ALWAYS USE A SPOTTER WHEN DOING THESE. Remember the negetive part of a movement is when youre lowering the weight, what normally people relax with.

I hope this was understandable for you.
