Martial Arts Training & ExercisesDiscuss martial arts training and exercises here
I was practicing ippon seoi-nage(Spelling ), the other week and I heard my coach say, "Only 14,000 times till it builds in your muscle memory." Now I don't know much, if anything about this subject but, I would right be saying that muscle memory is to be able to perform a movement without conscious though, like walking.
Does anybody have any other numbers and evidence to back that? I have no idea what to type into google.
Actually, a friend of mine who is a physical therapist, attunes it to repetition of muscles to where they are accustomed to being used and retain such attributes for a period of time.

That post before mine, was that for post counting? How about the one after?
Hey, my post count has the same palaverment tone as anyone elses'
Joe's right. The number of repetitions performed to achieve subconcsious muslce memory of a technique is going to vary according to individual learning abilities. I don't have any data to back up my statement, but I do have plenty of personal experience and observational experience. I have a friend who started practicing drums at the same time as me (seven years ago), and he still has trouble holding down a steady beat for AC/DC songs (Which are the easiest rock songs in the world to play). He used to practice every other day. I, on the other hand, practiced every day for the first three years that I was learning, and I was playing beats for various genres of music with a live band within two years of beginning.

I'm the same age as you, but it's no excuse; we must always strive to be the best we can be. If we don't understand, we should not lower the difficulty of the situation; we should learn and grow stronger to overcome the obstacles at hand.

I agree; is this, aside from conditioning, why repetition is important to the self-defence aspect of training?
