The thing about human weapons that I don't like is their exaggerations. Example "this judo throw can generate up to 10,000 lbs. of force." Bull crap!
"This strike has been known to send the nose bone into the skull."
Their isn't even a nose bone! And if it was hit that hard, it would break! Not be driven into the brain. And the hosts are always saying how they are always so close to death because of how dangerous the moves are. They are on a show, the producers won't let them do anything that is really dangerous.
I thought Human Weapon was entertaining, but I really like Fight Quest because it seems that the martial artists that the show's hosts meet don't seem to be taking it easy on them at all. You could always tell that the Human Weapon guys were being treated with kid gloves during the fights, but I keep seeing the Fight Quest guys getting pummelled and knocked out even in training.

I saw Fight Quest the other day. It was OK. I like Human weapon better. The one thing I liked more in Fight Quest was that they showed more of the last fight compared to what human Weapon usually does.
The main dude whines all the time though. It gets annoying. He needs to learn to eat bitter.
Me too. My art - Vee-Jitsu has been compared to Hapkido many times. Hapkido is a very diverse and versatile art.
complete - I am watching "Enter the Dragon" right now on AMC. I never tire of watching this flick. I still think it is one of the best MA flicks ever.
Thanks,
Tom

I must have seen that movie thousands of times by now. I own the 25th anniversary edition DVD that has some scenes that were cut from the original release.

I bought that version of Enter the Dragon" a couple of weeks ago, and I like it a lot. Some interesting stuff in the bonus materials.

Korean Hapkido is being 'discussed' coming up on the 8th of this month.

I am not looking forward to them mutilating that style. Did any of you see the pathetic attempt at Savate???? It was horrible. That was by far the worst showing I've ever seen.

Do not be fooled into thinking your enemy's sin is worse than yours, or that your's is better than his.

I finally watched the Hapkido episode. I haven't taken Hapkido but I've taken Hwa Rang Do, and some of the kicks and techniques were very similar.
Something I realized watching episode that I didn't see when I saw other episode with Silat, Kukyushin Karate, and Savate. That is, I can see some weaknesses in the way they were fighting. Can't say whether it's the style or the how the people were practicing this particular style. If the final sparring were a real fight, I think both Doug and Jimmy would've easily beat their opponents trained in Hapkido.
First of all, both Doug and Jimmy were in much better shape than any of the typical blackbelts in any system who's just doing it as part time/hobby level. Second, even though neither Doug nor Jimmy were efficient at those fancy kicks, they were much better at moving around and looking for openings.
I'm only saying this because I was able to see due to my familiarity with the style, that I couldn't see from other styles but I'm sure they all equally apply. (Even though Doug and Jimmy lost by points in many of the episode playing by their respective style's rules, but overall they are better trained and better fighters in real life)
I'm more of a believer now that training in multiple styles will give you more insights into pros and cons of each style and help you get better as an overall fighter.
I was really impressed with them on this episode. I find it odd that they had such problems with Savate and picked up most of the other styles a lot better.
Still I dont think the black belts from hapkido were trying very hard. It was pretty much tap sparring, its hard to move full speed and avoid knocking out your "guest". IMHO anyway.

I really like how Jimmy was able to pick up something totally new to him (spin sweep) and apply it so well in his fight. Throughout the episode you saw him using it and it turned out to be a real strength for him.
I have been to the forums at History.com (for human weapon) and they all complain a about how fight quest is just a rip from their show. I have to say that for a rip, it is twice as good as Human weapon, and I enjoy the episodes much more.
