rules in america limit the fighters

In Thai/Cambodia the rules are much more set for the fans to enjoy the fighters as gladiators. Less restrictions. When the fighters get into a clinch they are allowed to knee strike & elbow/ forearms across the face in order to try and create space. throws are allowed from the clinch as well. The difference as well is the kicks are delivered with the shin not padded feet. Although I see that the influence of thai fighting has changed American events to start using more thai rules. So I see america has to step it up to compete in the competitive world of kickboxing. We have a lot of potential here as Muay Thai gains steam in America. It has a big impact on the MMA arena as well.

love to respond more with my input but got to go work the bag

basic rules of any ring sport apply here. Yet the kicks are much more intense & less flashy.

Again. It depends on who is sanctioning the event.

I have to agree.

Afterall, one is going to train under those certain stipulations or guidlines per the sanctioning body

Kickboxing was separated from Muay Thai in the past. It's adapt some good of Muay Thai and changed rules some rules support some culture. So, Muay Thai and kickboxing different in rules and method to achieve the points by Japanese guy. (Sorry, I cannot remember his name. All documents are in Thai language, I will update if I got it again.)

Kickboxing is bring back from Thailand in name Kickboxing and widespread to the worlds later. In Japan, they change to new name K-1 and change the rule suit for Japan.

How difference between Kickboxing and Muay Thai
In Muay Thai, we must respect to the teacher before fighting while no need this in Kickboxing. Kickboxing is looking more simple to fight but if you are real fighter, you may feel it's not completed. Something was missing but it's fine!

About equipment, Muay Thai and Kickboxing use the same equipment in fighting. (I asked from my friend the owner of Muay Thai Art - Thai Boxing gear | Kickboxing Shorts , best Muay Thai store.)

Interesting that you bash Kickboxing versus Muay Thai yet Dutch Kickboxing has dominated the K-1 scene and even some Muay Thai championships in recent years.

Ouch. That must have stung a bit.

Kickboxing in the U.S. is not really true kickboxing anymore. Billy Blanks ruined it. Now, in almost every scenario you will find that when someone advertises "Kickboxing" they mean "Cardio Kickboxing". Not always, but enough to ruin the name.

LOL... I have to agree somewhat... when I teach what I call 'cardio combat & kickboxing fitness'.. I will commonly invite them to our 'Kickboxing' Class and every once in a while someone will say, 'well isn't that what we're doing??"... and my reply is, 'Uummmmm NO! We do NOT hit people is THIS class.. But we DO in Kickboxing'
