It does help make your hand harder. However you can permanatley injure your hand while performing this action. In Japanese Karate, they are REQUIRED to karate chop a rock for i think 15 minutes without break. and they train on wooden floors. Many people permanatley damage their hands beyond repair thus never moving them again. BE CAREFUL WHEN CONDITIONING LIKE THAT, KNOW YOUR LIMITS!!!

But in modern society, these methods are deemed impractical.

and also dangerous thats why you dont see a muay thai club offering free trees to hit until your hands are battered and bruised but then again it might dampen somebodies overractive ego

But, MT fighters have a short span. Then they have many problems as they get older.

They do it cause this is a way to earn a living.

Anyone else, is doing it for the bandwagon.

I deem hardcore conditioning a unneccesity when one is not going for serious competition and constant fighting.

Simply one does it because they are going to have scheduled fights, not "because its "sheik and geek". Or that it' cool. It is about fighting to earn a living from having nothing but.

Well, it is a matter of balancing priorities. If someone is willing to pay you mass amounts of money... well... that's a pro that you can sacrifice a bit of your health for. If it is something you just do from time to time for entertainment then the cons aren't so huge. This extends to all sorts of things: People still drink even though it is bad for them.

Indeed, but as injuries would take hold later in life, unless one has a good investment tucked away, they are going to suffer from medical finances
