Hello people I have started muay thai and have been to 5 - 6 classes. I have always wanted to start muay thai for various reasons.
one of the reasons I chose muay thai was I witnessed how powerful my little brother became when he fanatically trained at muay thai.
my last class consisted of 45 mintues of non stop pylometrics, isometrics, and body weight training which was more difficult and body destroying than my powerlifting excercise I do at home. I was ver impressed on their emphasis of training the body.

welcome mate , I've always prefered body weight exercises ( gymnasts are the storngest people in the world pound for pound and body weight exercises are what they do most)

The big reason why your MT was much more intense than your power lifting was simply because MT uses muscles previously untrained by power lifting. Keep doing both and good luck.
A tip (I wish I'd been told this when I first started). A strong core is the fundament of a powerful strike...it is the centre of strength for all rotational moves. When I started training my core regularly it really helped me improve the strength of my striking and kicking so if you start doing those exercises as a beginner you are definitely going to be a strong muay thai fighter.
