Oh, and if you're going to do any groundfighting, watch out for arm locks. Those are always what end it for me in sparring. The problem with sparring for me is that there are so many powerful and potentially deadly techniques I simply can't make use of. In a real fight, I go for the throat and end the conflict quickly and efficiently.
I am beginning to think this place is 90% trolls. I am pretty sure there is no Akai Shizuku. No one is this stupid.
I say Troll.

You must be a MT'er or BJJ. Anyway maybe he lacks the same ground knowledge you do and you think you can just troll his post. Great thinking.
The throat I agree does seem too small of a target to be a logical hit. Mis-statement?
Uh....yeah, my sign states that my background is BJJ and Submission Grappling.
I seriously think Akai is a troll, do you think he's being serious when he says "problem with sparring for me is that there are so many powerful and potentially deadly techniques I simply can't make use of." ? Come on dude, that's an obvious troll post. That's the line any modern MA person uses to make fun of old school MA people. Really.
I mean, you got a 15 year old kid who thinks he invented a new (completely new, as in NEVER BEEN DONE BEFORE IN THE THOUSANDS OF YEARS OF SWORDSMANSHIP) sword fighting technique who hates women, hates Western culture and calls himself a poet! That is NOT a real person, you all are being fooled.
If Akai is NOT a troll then he is genuinely delusional and someone needs to alert the local police of his whereabouts.

I find it interesting that you simply cannot recognize your own hypocrisy.

It depends on what sort of technique you use. With most kicks or an elbow strike, it's difficult to get to the throat; a knifehand is a different story. Because the knifehand is narrow-shaped, it can get to smaller targets easier. Also, by "going for the throat" I was only partially literal. What I also meant was I prefer to end the conflict as quickly as possible and to make sure those around me are safe.

The only troll here is you, Joe. Unlike you, my intentions when posting were not belligerent nor malicious. Unlike you, I intend to contribute to this website to teach what I know and learn what I do not. Unlike you, I have the humility to recognize when I am wrong. You make assumptions about me based on other assumptions. You jump to conclusions. I conclude that you are a fool. Oh, and if you have a problem with my poetry and swordsmanship, I'd like to see you do better, bub.

Unless you plan on discussing the rules to the kick boxing match the two of you are going to have, stop the argument.
Although I will agree and say that there are no magical techniques in a fight to end it quickly (I took go for the throat to be a figure of speech), a person does have the right to both explore possibilities in sword fighting and hate women irregardless if anything useful comes from it. HOWEVER, this is not the weapons nor is it the misogyny section of the forum.

I will, from this point on, take the mods' side and ignore Joe. Like a virus, his type will leave if you let it run its course.
Chapel, I don't hate women. I don't know where this assumption came from. It's ridiculous, to say the least.
Joe has attempted to cross swords with me on nearly every thread I've been posting on merely because he needs someone to take some sort of frustration out on. Perhaps his wife left him; I can certainly see why. As aforementioned, as of this post I am officially ignoring Joemoplata. The arguments he and I have been having do not benefit the members of Martial Arts Forums, and therefore I will cease to take part. This spider shall no longer bite, much less inject any more venom along with words (spoken or typed).

Thanks Chapel. Anyway, Most fighters are aware of their neck and don't let knife hand strikes get anywhere near it. I should know, knife hand attacks are almost ineffective. They come from the right and left and all it takes to block 'em is simply raising your elbow.
(Off Topic: Western Culture is Western Culture, it's like hating your Mom. You don't want it to be there but you depend on it.)

Yeah, but some relatively untrained thug on the street might not know that. If the throat strike doesn't work (I don't entirely expect it to anyway), I simply hit 'em hard. I use the techniques I know. Anyway, back to kickboxing.
Use your power. Don't completely rely on it, though. Balance yourself between speed and power. Make sure proper technique is in there as well.

I guess when I fight I don't think as much as you Akai. I don't think about speed and power and technique. I rely on what I know and it just flows. There is speed, there is power, and there is definitely technique, but I am concentrated on beating the guy, not how I am going to do it.

I do all of my complex thinking when I'm not fighting, so that I'm not distracted during. During the fight, I follow the same philosophy you've just stated. I rely on what I know and allow my strikes and techniques to flow like tongues of flame. Still, during the fight you've got to briefly think over what you're going to do based on your opponent specifically.

In any combat sport oriented competition you need to have a specific strategy going into the match. In order to have a good strategy, you need to understand the rules involved and should have practiced for those rules ahead of time. This is important.
You strategy should always be to implement your game FIRST. Do not let your opponent dictate the first move, unless your strategy is to counter fight. Put your opponent when you feel the most comfortable.
This holds true regardless of the type of combat sport you're participating in.

Knowing your opponent may also prove useful in a bout. You may know his preferred strategies, strengths and weaknesses. If this knowledge does not distract you, it may prove useful.
