Exclamation need a professional opinion from Martial Arts practitioner

Hi all!

As my New Year resolution I am planning to start taking kick-boxing classes. Did my research, talked to people. So there is this place in my area that seems to be the most popular

They have very informative website and all. Anyway I do not want to make a commitment/pay money until I talk to someone who has actual kick-boxing experience.

The guy has a video out for people to see what he teaches - Please tell me is you think he is for real???!!!

YouTube - Jab Traing by PowerHouse Kickboxing

After all there are kickboxing classes in the gym next door - and they are much cheaper.

Thanks for your advise!

Interesting...

He seems to know what he's talking about, but to be honest his explanation on the jab it a bit off in that he telegraphs it. In other words, he pulls the arm back before throwing the jab which means if I'm throwing the FIRST variation he mentioned I would be beating him to the punch.

So it's not necessarily the best strategy, IMO.

But I'm sure he would have an explanation for that if you were to ask the question of him.

well, i actually poster your comment on his site to see if he replyes, here's what he had to say:
""It's a good question. But if you look at the video you will see that when I do jab or combination I do not telegraph it. I did load jab only in the exercise (I mentioned in the video that it is not how you are going to fight). The purpose of the exercise is to build muscle memory to involve more body into the punch - you have to feel it first. I tell my students to slow down and relax in the beginning so they feel and control the motion, after that they will be natural and more powerful. Txs""

--- Again Thank you all for the advise and suggestions. I am going to visit the studio and watch the class today. Will see how it feels.

Cheers,
Nooby

Going to the school to watch first is smart on your part. You might even call the BBB to see if he has any complaints that have been registered, it doesn't mean he's a bad teacher but might hepl you find out if he is a good business owner. Good luck.

A little background research goes a long way;

* How many fights did he have?

* Were they on a National/Global rank? (Standings)?

* Who trained him, and who trained his trainer?
