So I used to spend time with a few MT guys from Zen Do Kai and I noticed a few strange training exercises. I was wondering how valid they were. I was thinking of incorporating them but wanted some expert opinions. Can't ask the MT guys at Zen Do Kai as I currently don't attend lessons there.
1. Running on toes / tip toes. To strengthen shin and calf muscles.
2. Rolling glass bottles up and down shins. To deaden nerves and strengthen shins.
3. Weird Buddha statues and talismans. To help mental focus. Obviously I'd be using a Christian Cross instead.

1.) Wouldn't suggest it. Balerinas do the same thing and have terrible issues with thier legs as they get older.
2.) Again, wouldn't suggest it. While "rolling" (obviously different than groundfighting's rolling) will deaden your your nerves, you can cause permanent, painful, damage. There actually is a way to do this safely. With a glass bottle with no knowledge is absolutely NOT one of them.
3.) First off define "wierd." Just because YOU haven't seen it before or don't subscribe to those beliefs do not make them "weird." If you need to use a cross to help your mental focus, more power to you. It strikes me as a crutch though. Learn to focis without such devices.
Do your conditioning with the heavy bag. That way, you also get the MA practice in also. I have said on here a bunch of times that the strengthening of the bones you get through normal martial arts training is more than sufficient to prepare you for anything you will encounter in your life.
Likewise, I wouldn't bother changing my running style to work on any specific part of my leg muscles. Running in general will help increase muscular endurance. Using weights will help with explosiveness, plus you won't be limited by your lung capacity. (Personally my lungs give out before my legs, but that is just me.)

Alright, sorry about that poorly worded description. It wasn't my intention to offend anyone. When I said "weird" I meant they didn't actually look like the Buddha. He was an Indian man who was probably very thin, not an East Asian / Chinese looking man (sometimes shown over-weight). I also consider a number of English looking Jesus Christ statues to also be weird by the same token.

The Buhdha was Indian and by accounts was very thin. Showing the Buhdha as overweight is not to be taken as a literal representation, but rather that he posessed a wealth of health and enlightenment. Buhdhism also has many symbols that while not equal in religious symbology as the cross is to Christians, it is similiar.
Cultures pretty much always represent those they venerate as looking the same as themselves. Christ apears Caucasion to Eastern Europeans and the Buhdha apears Asian to (suspiciously like the Han) Chinese.
I have done 1 because of a weird foot thing i have not due to MT and I do have very strong calfs , ( I walked on my toes for years ) but I do have big problems with my knees know due to the muscle imbalance . I have done the bottle thing but never to a crazy extent , so it was never permanent .

We're Christians, we don't really need like items, you know little Jesus's on Crosses, we have a personal relationship with God... we don't need to pray to a cross, the idea of mental focus I believe is to find where your adrenal glands are and to be able to use them at will.
Are you sure it was glass? Not plastic? seems extremely dangerous to me. I think that the first exercise you mentioned was for working in the clinch, because when you're in clinch you want to be higher up than your opponent.
Guys I'd recommend dropping religious conversational stuff and save it for a religious thread.

It needs to be glass ,plastic isn't heavy or hard enough , I suggest a rolling pin (if you where to do it) . I think your reading too much into the religious side of things doneal

A rolling pin or even an escrima stick will do. You also need some heavy linament and someone who knows the difference between rolling pain and nerve damage. You want the pain, but not the nerve damage...it is permanant. So if you don't have all these things, please don't do this type of training. If you do the likely result is no long lasting effect on your shins, meaning you wasted your time, or nerve damage to your leg.

You're sure it has to be glass? Why wouldn't plastic work?
Stop posting religious post if you don't want people's comments on them. We get it, what you believe is the only way to believe and the rest of us are going to hell. See? Now you don't have to post them anymore.
As far as the bottle not being plastic, someone already answered that before you asked the question and Triangle's post was also accurate. I've quoted both below. The only other thing I would add is that the item you use has to have a unform shape. A plastic bottle would be crushed, therefore not keeping its shape.
