Muay thai breathing techniques?

hi, i have a korean MA background and new to MT, but i was wondering if anyone knows of any breathing techniques in MT. Korean MA really concentrate on breathing and my MT class doesn't. i have asthma, so this causes a bit of a problem. i try transfering the techniques, but i find that since MT is more intense i don't get the chance to do the slower movements that Korean MA use to slow my breathe. help?

Through my MT training I have found it useful to take quick deep breaths. This allows for plenty of oxygen into the body and blood to give you the quick bursts of energy that are required when practicing this form of MA.

Yeah it seems like quick breathes is the way to go since MT is alot of quick and energetic movements, but I don't think your going to get your breathing to be completely relaxed while doing MT

hi i also have asthma, and when i started back training it affected me quite a bit.i dont know about the inhalers in canada but i use my 'preventer' religiously on a daily basis, also my salbutomol(reliever) when required. someone suggested to me to take up running-i thought i'd never be able to do it. i have been running now for two years, and i run three times a week at least-my asthma has almost gone and i hardly use the blue inhaler anymore, so it's not how you breathe in the classes, i think that it's how fit your lungs are.yet again-everyone is different, but this worked for me.hope that helps some.regards-jimbo.

you dont smoke do you because my older brother used to smoke just before he went to his training and he found that smoking increased his heart rate and he would lose concerntration and concertration helps your breathing.

wooleybugs you are right i have found that i am much better now. i was down town and running late the other day and had to run six blocks and i was amazed that i could do it and feel perfectly fine after!! i use to get really ill just running for the bus. (it also helps that i don't live at home anymore.... my mom had 4 cats and 2 dogs and a bunny at the time )

dasher43, no i don't smoke... only the duck does i should hope that most people on this forum don't smoke given to how health conscious we all are
