the evidence piled against ashida kim and his apperant reaction to it suggests he is not a man of martial arts.
Like I said, I not debating his authenticity. I'm just repeating what I know from personal experience. But I am curious of what evidence we are talking about?

What is your personal experience?

Hey, my post count has the same palaverment tone as anyone elses'
I've met Ashida Kim and Chris Hunter, respectively. They are different people, by the way. I only met them both while attending a training camp for the Black Dragon in Pennsilvania, and that has been the only time I have both met and ever trained with the man. But, I've had some contact through e-mail etc, since then.
I am not nor have been a student of his or part of his organization. So, I will only state my experiences as speaking with him, listening to a lecture and alittle trading of techniques. I've also met Ronald Duncan etc.
As AK explained it to me, because of his training in Karate (Kenpo & Shotokan) & Judo, his Sensei introducted him to Ninjitsu and he learned it in that form. He was never sure of his Sensei's nationality since the man was half-Hawian & half-Japanese he often passed for one or the other, or was sometime acused of being Korean or Chinese.
Never discused lineage a great deal cause I don't care about lineage that much, but James Mitose, who taught Kosho Ryu Kenpo-Jujutsu in Hawaii, was an alledged student of Seiko Fujita's Nanban Sato Ryu Kenpo. As several of Mitose's trapping and joint locks are very similar to the common techniques of the Bujinkan, Ronald Duncan, and Seiko Fujita's own books on ninjutsu. So the hawaiian thing could be a connection or it could just coinecidence...

If a martial artist decides he wants to create his own form of ninjutsu, how does that make him a make-believe ninja? Is he not then a unique ninja of his own work?

Depends on where he got his work.
For that matter, if I decided to want a Collegiate Master Degree, shall I just study, or study something specific from a credible source?
Can one "self-appoint" their own title?

Good points, and I'll have to say yes on your question; but only when the "self-appointer" is serious, learned and well-versed in and about what he is titling himself with.

Depends, are we talking about throwing a punch or delievering a baby ? Since he opennly admitts his Ninjitsu contains elements of Karate, Judo & Kung-fu as well as arts such as Intonjitsu (stealth & evasion) one must ask a more realistic question. If I blow up building am I a terrorist? Terrorist, being the modern equivailant to "ninja"; being a non-defined criminal title awarded by sheer acusation.
Like the many ninja who plagued Japan but were never connected to the Ninjutsu Ryu-ha. Or the Countless Ronin, who were never Samurai or ever hired by Damyo who are recorded as such. Does it matter you define yourself with a generic title or if history does?

So, then we should all give up studying from others and teach ourselves, and give ourselves our own credit and rank.....
