Being as we have a few ninja on martial-forums, I think if they are willing some info might be useful.
Post any questions and hope for an answer.
My first question is what is the best way to make a smoke bomb? I heard using a 2:1 ratio of fertilizer and suger works, but I would be cool to get real tips from Draven, Shinobi, or any of the other ninja.

exactly what type of fertilizer? ive never heard of fertilizer....only in the sense that some of the materials needed can be found in the fertilizer section
of the garden supply store. if you have convenient access to the fertilizer your using and it works out for u ok if youve tried it. then thats cool.
a 2:1 ratio can make the smoke bomb harder to light but will burn more slowly. 5:3 ratio is good, smoke bomb lights easier and burns more quicker.

imo its what u have available to u an what u like to work with
but some good ingredients are saltpeter which can be found in the fertilizer section of the garden supply store and sugar these are the most common
a little bit of Baking soda is good too.....about a teaspoon full, this slows the combustion

Ironically, when you do order that book of mine, I have section on smokebombs. But, here are few that aren't in the book. The origional ninja didn't use smoke bombs because they were expensive, but they did use allot of blinding-powders, and at night a "cloud" of light reflective dust will limit the effects of light source. This is why NODs (Night-Optical-Devices) can be tricked with a handful of gitter
But one weapon was rather unique, the little known but infamous bamboo gun, which was a bamboo tube with a small hole to create a kind of one use improvsie gun, sometime it held throwing spikes or most times it was just small rocks used to as kind of buck shot. Another factor in this was that since black powder ignites under pressure a tightly packed ball of black powder will explode if thrown against wood or stone and if spead as a dust in the air with create a flaming cloud. Black power also produces allot of smoke.
A good smoke and flash bomb can be made from black powder and magnisium or simply suffer and magnisim. Also if you want to be lazy, you can just go to a handware store and the stuff for smoking out moles and strip the smoke poweder from them.
In more moder times, smoke-bombs or smoke-grenades have come into more common useage...
