I'm not a ninjitsu practitioner, and i certainly dont understand all the complexities of the art. I practice Hwa Rang Do, my instructor is the ninjitsu guy. Most of us ust refer to him as Sabonim... I've only been in this dojang for about a month now. Would it be rude to ask his real name?

Of course not, it would be rude of him not to tell you. How can you train under someone when they won't tell you their real name. I would be out of there in an instant.

I am about to start training at Koteki Dojo under Anthony Lucas (I believe that is his name), which teaches the art of ninjutsu as taught my Masaaki Hatsumi.
I feel this training is worth the time, but will it teach me real, traditional techniques, or is it just fighting.
Styles: Ninjutsu, Tae Kwon Do, Modern Army Combatives

Duh! it's a punch to the solar plexus! if a big, strong Hwa Rang Do blue belt decked me in the sternum, i would probably cease to breathe as my heart got bruised, then i would die. It doesnt take a full-fledged ninja to do that.
while that was a cool video, that guy is not an actual ninjutsu practicioner from any of the established schools. and that solar plexus strike is found in many other arts, the solar plexus is one area but theres several others. a Muay Thai person could do the same, Karateka could do the same strike an make those readings etc.

Shihan Lucas conducts his classes the same way classes are conducted in Japan. youll learn the 9 ryuhas that make up the bujinkan these are both samurai and ninja arts, classical and modern weapons and empty handed combat.
he's also very knowledgeable on the culture and history and will give those insights during instructions, like why you are doing a certain posture or technique and where it originally came from.
ive attended a few seminars with him and learned alot.

Sabonim is just a title for instructor. Somewhere in the area of the school there has to be a name like "Sabonim Ken" (me ) or some such. Although I understand if he doesn't want to be addressed by anything other than "Sabonim", it would be a little strange if he absolutely wouldn't tell you his name.

I'm calling you Sabonim from now on
