Kamatuuran Kalijin: fan 03 video

I wasn't able to use the embed video function, so here's the link:

YouTube - Fan 03

There were questions in a previous fan post regarding the realistic use of fan as a weapon. This third video showing my grandmaster using the fan shows some of the strike points with greater clarity.

Now the question was brought up as to whether this weapon is better than the knife or simply open hand. The question assumes that practicing with the fan does not improve someone's skills with a knife or their open hand. It also presumes that a person should only practice certain weapons.

A weapon is only a weapon because of the intent and skill of the person wielding that weapon. It is a tool to a means. A weapons master can instill any item with their intent and skill to accomplish their goal.

That said, is it easier for someone without training to injure/kill someone with a knife than a fan? Yes but I think that's mostly because there isn't a population in the world that doesn't understand the use of a bladed item. But then an unskilled person is also likely to injure or perhaps kill themselves with a blade. I can also say this about a gun as well.

Each weapon whether it's something held or the open hand itself has pros and cons, advantages over other weapons. People have already noted that I can carry a fan onto a plane, into any building without security drawing attention to confiscate the weapon.

Each weapon teaches something different. In particular, the fan develops hand strength and dexterity, things that can improve open hand and knife technique.

The weapons master makes the weapon practical and useful, a reflection of their abilities and skill. Some weapons require more practice and more work to make it effective for the wielder of the weapon. But I can say that for the knife, a gun, a stick, a sword. How much work is one willing to put in to be effective with a weapon, any weapon?

Regards,
Gura Michelle Bautista
