Other Martial ArtsDiscuss other martial arts here - such as Capoeira, Savate, Fencing, and Western Martial Arts, etc.
It was something that was...interesting. I could see the application to some of the things it did, but for me it would not be suitable to use if I was being comfronted on the street. As I said before though, I am no expert at drunken boxing and it is quite possible there is something to it I'm not seeing. It WAS kinda cool to learn a bit of something that I'd only seen in video games and movies. One of my favorite things is to learn something new, especially if it involves martial arts...even if I won't incorporate it into my core training.
To learn something new because its cool and in video games/movies seems callow.

I think he was saying that it was cool to learn it in real life because he had only previously seen it in video games. Not that he learned it because it was cool and in video games.
Tough distinction to make, but I believe it is there.

Doing what is cool is not always a true path.....

I do what I enjoy. If that seems callow to you, as I said before, everyone has an opinion. It does seem kinda wierd to me you would have a need to actually post a judgement on it. I can understand posting on drunken boxing because we are here to learn from each others opinions on martial arts. However, a person is what he does. To say he does something for a callow reason..well wierd.
I love the Zui Quan style, although its not too effective in fighting:/ But still it looks awesome.
I know a few Zui Quan movies, and these are:
Once Upon a Time in China
Drunken Master 1 & 2
Dance of the drunk mantis
Heroes Of the east
Last hero in china
The Drunken Fighter
Drunken Swordsman (aka Drunken Dragon Strikes Back
The Shaolin Drunken Monk
Drunken Tai-Chi
Revenge of the Drunken Master
Drunken Master III (aka Drunken Master Killer)
The Little Drunken Masters
These are the ones know but there are probably other ones.
My Favs.
1, Drunken Master - Jackie Chan
2. Once Upon a Time In China (All of the Movies) - Jet Li
3. Drunken Master 2 - Jackie Chan

Well, people do things along the lines of callow. So if you say or do things within these lines....

It doesn't seem wise to me to invest large amounts of time in emulating the (ir)rationality of drunkards. The best thing they have going for them is the lack of reflexes which makes them less likely to tense up before a hit. It is how drunk drivers walk away from accidents when the sober people they run into are killed. Despite that, it is the drunk who has no control over himself and ends up unnecessarily hurting others, which seems to be in complete contrast to the goals of the martial arts. The only thing they have going for them is something a sober man cannot emulate and what they have going against them are things a sober man would not want to emulate.

KUDOS! beautiful and logically said. I gave you a +Rep
People cannot seem to understand that this style is based upon the legend of a acoholic derelict. Whom, perhaps was the best fighter in his area (Even sober). Thus the legend is romanticised and told for amusement. Thus, such study of the style, in futile attempts, is to warrant its fascination via admiration for uncouth behavior.

Although I agree with you Katydid, the martial art does not actually require you to get drunk much in the same way that Monkey Style Kung Fu doesn't actually require you to become a monkey.

However, the drunk style was done by a drunkard.
Monkey style is done by a buffoon

Well it was created by the 'The Eight Drunken Immortals', but that doesn't mean that you have to be drunk to preform themovements...
The Eight Immortals are:
Immortal Woman He (He Xiangu),
Royal Uncle Cao (Cao Guojiu),
Iron-Crutch Li (Li Tieguai),
Lan Caihe,
Lü Dongbin, (leader)
Philosopher Han Xiang (Han Xiang Zi),
Elder Zhang Guo (Zhang Guo Lao), and
Zhongli Quan.
