Home Country: | Drunken Boxing I have heard some stuff about it, but I don't know much at all. Has anyone on here ever heard of it? Are their schools of Drunken Boxing (also called Zui Quan) or is it part of another art? Anyone have any good sources of info about it (other than wiki)? |

Home Country: | Ah, so drunken boxing is a general mystery. I'll try to figure some stuff out about it. The wikipedia has some info that was not in that thread for anyone interested. |

Home Country: | There were a couple of vids on YouTube, or somewhere that a Drunken Boxer(s) went up against a Karateka(s)....and failed miserably.
This art cannot be efficient as the myth/legend of it was based upon a exceptional martial artist, who, out of natural ability, was able to fight while inebriated.
I have come across many people interested and/or studying this and they got "sober" fast.......

Home Country: | I had the good fortune of running into a Sifu that taught drunken boxing at a tournament I attended a few years ago. His school and ours were staying at the same hotel and after a few beers we started trading some information. I have used drunken boxing techniques in sparring matches and it is very effective at closing the distance and attacking by misdirection. As a buddy put it, "I can see when you start using that drinken stuff and know what's coming, but its so deceptive I can't stop it." Unfortunately, most people I see performing drunken boxing do it as a cool form, but lack the fighting knowledge. You can spot those people by how often they leave thier gaurd open |

Sounds far fetched and not probable.....

It was just something to pull out in a sparring match |

Home Country: | It was something that was...interesting. I could see the application to some of the things it did, but for me it would not be suitable to use if I was being comfronted on the street. As I said before though, I am no expert at drunken boxing and it is quite possible there is something to it I'm not seeing. It WAS kinda cool to learn a bit of something that I'd only seen in video games and movies. One of my favorite things is to learn something new, especially if it involves martial arts...even if I won't incorporate it into my core training. |
