Defending yourself, your beliefs, or your individuality is never easy as it only brings conflict....just look at the news, your school, or a Martial arts forum.....

If you walked around China in one of those, people will laugh at you. I would throw something at you, well maybe not you because we're cool and all, but a random person.

yup, i already know that, but does the fact that i will be ridiculed and mocked, maybe beaten because some jack@$$ thinks its wrong, does any of that change the fact that i wear them????
well the answer is simple because i still wear them. thats like when you see a chinaman wearing a cowboy hat, or a european thats wearing baggy cargo pants or skater shoes......now tell me the difference???
Just because people will laugh when you say that you cant split atoms, doesnt mean you can go through with your beliefs and still express yourself.
I mean hey, what if you liked to wear baggy jeans, $200 shoes, and hoodies? if you go around new york or california, heck even here in colorado, will people not laugh and call you a wannabe????
Ignorace is very blissful, and i actually would be proud if someone was interested in my culture and even liked to dress in the cultural uniforms...

LD, wearing clothes which directly relate to youth culture (Skater, Emo, Gangster) is a tad different from wearing ancient Chinese clothing (Probably stretching it by using the word ancient), don't ya think?

We used to have "free dress day" at my Silat school. It got you to train your self-defence moves in normal attire.

h aha no MM47 once again you misunderstand me. I do want to bring individuality and i know that will sometimes mean that i stand out, but i wear the clothes simply because I want to. Not for this bogus " i want to be cool!" or "I want to be feared or act asian because i wear this" stuff that teens pull these days.
hmmmmmmmm i would have thought that i wouldn't be attacked so much because my reason behind it. It seems that if i would be a Follower like most others and wore the clothes they do everyone would be cool with it???? And then people would turn around and say that they look up to leaders and people who dont follow others, yet i get bashed because of that same reason???
oh BTW im saying in general not towards any memeber on this forum.

true, but then again if you put skating, gangbanging, basketball player, etc in the same category then where does Martial Artist Belong?????
What would a martial artist wear besides his Martial arts attire that shows he enjoys and practices what he does???
i personally think its just that its become so racially acknowleged in asians more than americans that other asians or americans cant accept someone other than the asian race wearing asian things or loving asian culture.
would it not be the same thing for asians wearing Basketball Jerseys, or how about Soccer jerseys?
or how about a big one. another thing i love to do.....Breakdancing. You see a while back in the late 70's it all started here in america in new york, then moved on to over seas. They still dress a certain way kind of like hip hop mixed with skater (Armbands, baggy jeans, hats, beanies, etc) yet when an asian or anyone of another race dresses like that, why is it that no one cares? probably because they dress the same , idk but it should be no different for martial artists.
the thing i find most redundant at my school is when an asian guy throws hateful remarks at me for dressing like an asian, yet he has on baggy jeans, gold chains, and an american flag....... do i need to even say whats wrong with that picture?

Wow I didn't know Gangbanging was a new social group. Yay the 1970s are back. (If you don't get this don't worry, it's for 47MM).
As for the Asian guys picking on ya threads, just tell them that it's a cultural appreciation thing. Wow, I had always thought you were Asian, but then again I thought WC_Lung was Asian too. Dope!
So onto my joke (it's not particularly good but it's what this thread was originally about).
Why did the ninja cross the road?
He didn't, that was a decoy, the real ninja is right behind you....
