Philosophical DiscussionDo you have a philosophical view to martial arts styles, training, etc. ?
That being said, healing with this stuff in mind works pretty well as a reduction of mental stress and relaxation techniques allow the body to heal faster. Not to mention long term health benefits from controlling breathing on blood pressure. In that case, if calling it chi helps you, I say go for it because at the very worst that happens to you is that you waste a few hours of your life meditating. (Try Chi attacks on the street and you could get killed due to false confidence.)
thank you for a very useful statement. i have never taken the thought of attacking with my chi seriously, simply because i thought it would get me hit in the face, but i see no harm in trying to lower my salt ravaged blood pressure. anyone have any suggestions on meditations i might try?

Try a tai chi class. When done slowly, with low stances, and correct body positioning it is like a moving meditation. It isn't a magic bullet and you won't notice a difference right away, but over time you will notice some positves. Lower stress and blood pressure are proven effects.

One that is effective for blood pressure is focusing on your breathing and trying to get to under 10 breaths per minute for 5 minutes. If you can get below 10, try to get below 9 (and so on). The difficult part is to do continue to breathe at an even pace as opposed to holding your breath for 10 seconds and then taking a quick one. This exercise once a day can show a good bit on improvement for you blood pressure (but it won't mean you can eat deep fried salt).
Also, one that I use from time to time is imagining that I am taking pain from an injury, bring it to my lungs and then breathing it out. It draws focus away from the pain thus reducing it. This exercise is almost entirely psychosomatic. I know this, but I can delude my self enough to believe it does something when I am in pain.

I have used this a lot over the last year and a half. It works pretty well. Another one is to concentrate just on the pain to the exclusion of all else. Its wierd, but when you do this with the right mind set the pain becomes very bearable.
There is an article on the no punch knock out in a recent issue of Black Belt magazine, but it does seem like fantasy, personally i think mastering the vulcan neck pinch is a better use of time J/K
