Questions about chi

i really want to know what chi is and what bearing it has on the martial arts. for the record i have opinions on chi, but i don't know if i am even close to understanding what chi is. i believe that chi must have an important place in the study of martial arts, as i hear talk of it come up in classes all the time. i feel like i must be missing the boat here, and hope someone will throw me a line. what is chi? how do i get in touch with it (if i can)? what will it do for my martial arts (if anything at all)?

This is a very good question , because there are many different opinions on what Chi is. Now i dont believe that any1 really knows what it is but my opinion and what i have been taught is this;
CHI ; is the energy of your body, and the force that you apply to your oponent. When you hit your oponent that is you tranfering your chi. But as for magical powers lol i dont think so. In other words chi can also be your sprit. That is what ive herd and what i was taught , but i dont follow it.

I thought it was Jing, well perhaps someone else uses the term...
