After Mark Coleman was brutally beaten by Fedor Emilianenko at last October’s Pride show in Las Vegas, his two young daughters were brought into the ring to greet him. Both girls were horrified at the sight of their father’s disfigured face and began crying uncontrollably. Coleman was trying to teach them about sportsmanship and was only able to calm them down once he introduced them to Fedor. To some observers, the act was more disturbing than touching.
Photographer Sam Morris of the Las Vegas Sun captured an award winning photo of the scene. Morris’ shot took first place in the sports feature, ‘picture of the year for International competition’, category.
