I live in southern california but I've been an anti-Laker fan for the past 20 years.

Even though I'm not a big fan of the Celtics, especially since they are doing so well in other sports, I'll be rooting for the Celtics this season.

May I ask why are you anti-Lakers?

My cousin.

He's such a big Laker fan and he used to put down all other teams. He was riding high in the 80's when they were winning all those championships. Then, when they started losing, I got such a kick out of rubbing it in. Also, even many of the Laker players (during Shaq's tenure) were all egotistical selfish players I didn't want to see them win.

Selfish players that win championships...ummm that doesnt even make sense. They may have been selfish egotistical people, but I wouldnt say that about ANY champion's play.

Personally I'm a Laker fan. Was a Bull's fan back in the day so I love seeing A) the best player in the game do his thing. Phil Jackson being the coaching guru that he is. and C) the triangle offense, does anybody else in the world even know how to run it?

Game 2 has to be the worst officiated game I've ever seen in any sport. They were just so inconsistent. Sometimes a touch foul would be called. Sometimes a hard foul would not. That crew needs to be split up.

Kobe's first 2 fouls. The flop by Paul Pierce. The elbow to Ray Allen, Ray gets hit and doesnt even change his facial expression. Oh yeah, thats a foul.

I didn't watch the entire game so I don't know how the officiating went but wouldn't be surprised if Celtics got the home court advantage, as all NBA teams do.

I call Lakers selfish (Shaq and Kobe era) because they were and the media played it up. Everybody knew the feud that went between the two, and between Kobe and Phil Jackson. Phil even wrote a book about it. Even though they won 3 championships and 4 finals appearance in Phil's first 5 years of coaching, the team fell apart because of their egos not because of their basketball skills. As a anti-Laker fan, I would go even one step further and say they won many of the games because refs let Shaq get away with so many offensive fouls and anybody even touches him were called for. Now that Shaq is not the big star he once was and when he tried to do the same thing in Miami and Phoenix, he gets the foul and made him so ineffective in games. So, if the refs were consistent, would they have won all those championships? hmmmm.

It wasnt so much an advantage in officiating, just really horrible calls on both sides of the court. They just lacked any sort of consistency.

So you think Phil would have returned to an organization that was really so dysfunctional?

Also Shaq left because he wanted waaaaaaaaaaaay too much more money than what owner Jerry Buss would pay him. Its as simple as that.

Yes they were egotistical but generally the best of anything are, but they also work the hardest and demand excellence.

A guy by the name of Jordan wasnt exactly the most popular guy on his team all the time either.

Sidenote...as you can tell by my increase in activity my loading problem has gone away.

It wasn't the money that drove Shaq away. It was the contract year for Kobe and he made it clear that if Shaq was there, he'd leave. Jerry Buss had to make a decision to keep one and he chose Kobe, which pissed Shaq off even more.

Phil came back because he felt bad for Kobe, as he himself said in various interviews. (That one year after the team was disbanned, the Lakers didn't make the playoff)

You can say top players need to be selfish with the ball to win championships, like Jordan wanting the ball in the crucial moments. But, there were no selfinishness in the bulls locker room. In fact, Jordan didn't draw a lot of salary initially until he won a few championships. He was getting enough money through endorsements, he rather have the team spend the money getting good players. Only after he won few championships, he was getting his worth.

So, no comparison between Jordan/Bulls and Kobe/Shaq/Lakers.

I was more comparing the mindsets of the very best at something more so than the teams themselves, but I do see and agree with your point on that one.

Actually Phil came back for a fat check and his girlfriend, Jeannie Buss told him to.

Even though I disagree with your first paragraph, if that was the way it played out then hindsight says that Jerry Buss made the right move.

How did the Lakers blow a 24-point lead at home to lose by 8?

Even I was surprised.

I went to bed at the end of the third qtr. i knew they would lose at that point. Congrats to the Celtics for winning the NBA championship this year. They should thank God that Bynum was hurt though.

Celtics had the chance to finish the finals last night but they let that chance slip away.

Can the Lakers win 2 in Boston to be the first team to come back from 3-1 deficit?

The odds are against them but anything is possible. I'm hoping not but you never know.
